Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my time. The team were very accommodating and allowed me a lot of scope to try new things as well as taking me under their wing and progressing me as an individual. I have learnt plenty and had regular review sessions to ensure I am on track.
The placement was good with a range of projects to keep me busy, though getting to that point took a little while with a slow start. The people there were in the main very friendly and eager to help me get involved in learning as much about the company as they could.
The company as whole is very interesting. Having tours of 2 Tata steel plants was very enjoyable. I was assigned a project as part of my 12 week placement. Although the task being asked of myself was straightforward and simple, getting information/ items from others where the difficult parts. Often this made the project a struggle, as someone who wants to do the best they can it's hard when there are so many issues stacked against you.
I really enjoyed my summer placement with Tata Steel. I had not done a proper structured work placement before so don't have anything to compare it with. I really enjoyed being in a new environment, learning lots of new thing and making some great friends. I was based in Port Talbot which is the biggest UK site so there were lots of other students there which was really nice.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Tata Steel Port Talbot . I have enjoyed learning about and experiencing workload in internal communication, external communication and community liaison. I have enjoyed being able to visit other sites of Tata Steel including Corby and Ijmuiden and increasing my knowledge of Communication as a function and learning about the steel industry and steel making process.
The work was interesting. I worked in the projects department as a project engineer. This was enjoyable as it offered different challenges then I have experience in university. The only issue was getting information about a system from some of the engineers on plant as it would take a while to do so and require a lot of chasing up.
The placement was challenging and I got a lot of responsibility for important projects for the site. It was made to be very difficult because of the university work that I had to complete at the same time of the placement, which took something away from the experience. However, it will be very useful experience for my future career.
Overall I enjoyed my work placement, there are several aspects of the job that I have found good such as the coding i have taught myself and done as part of my placement. Other parts of my job such as taking magnetic measurements have been okay. I have also enjoyed the experience of living in another country.
Placement starts you off with a bit of training and getting to know your skills. Before that you are properly introduced to the business and to your role, along with a tour of your workplace and the site. Once they determine your skill level you are immediately put on to work on a project. Once you learn more about how things are done and show potential they might intrust you with your own project giving you full responsibility providing the full time job experience expected.
I really enjoyed my time at Tata Steel in Port Talbot. It was a great opportunity to work in a very large organization and work on a few important projects which the business is currently using at that site. I loved my time there, all the staff were friendly and helpful.
