    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • This will involve formatting and issuing of mass email communications through Lotus Notes, monitoring and updating Task IDs, preparing internal blogs and updating with new information. I will also use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit short vlogs for key members of the GBS UKI Leadership team, Adobe Photoshop to create posters for upcoming events and will also receive training in video conferencing tools to assist and host virtual webinars. Additionally, I will also be exposed to activities as part of the HR calendar, including promotion rounds, salary programme and help organise events to tie into key national dates such as International Inclusion Week, World Mental Health Day etc.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Definitely, IBM has great learning courses and a learning platform free to all that work in the company. I have deep dived into the world of technology and cloud thanks to this opportunity. On another hand, when involved in projects I used this learning platform to fully understand the methodology we were working with and the issue presented in order to be informed and knowledgeable. This has has made the quality of my deliverables to be very high.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes - I was working with the GBS UKI Leaders in their support team. These leaders don't have the time to be micro-managing so I had to be very proactive as I was handed full projects to manage by myself. I had to develop my emotional intelligence in a way that would help me understand the task I was being given - I have greatly benefitted from the role I have been in to be able to network with them. All the interns of the team feel this way.

  • Interview: don't be nervous - be yourself. If it isn't meant to be it isn't (they may be even doing you a favour, don't be discouraged) Assessment Centre: Prepare yourself well! Don't leave anything out! If I had to give myself one piece of advice on my day one it would be not to be afraid to give my opinion - you could actually be sharing the next greatest idea
