    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working for the IBM CFO's UKI Finance team. Dealing with unassigned revenue/costs each month, running weekly revenue forecast reports for IBM UKI clients and understanding WtW changes along with being involved with Intern finance recruitment. On top of this, participating in Ad hoc tasks such as organising the All Hands meeting for Quarterly results, running occasional EPM reports for the team and the Christmas meal as well as various give back opportunities.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, a lot of the work/reporting I did was used/shown to senior members of UKI Finance. I had to run meetings with over 150 attendees and lead meetings with senior finance members.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A great amount of support & guidance, my task manager was incredibly supportive and encouraged me to grow/develop my skills & eminence. Foundation team were also very supportive and made every effort to be available for interns in their support, they were also very encouraging in celebrating your success.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Fantastic, the majority of IBM staff, regardless of how senior, are very approachable, affable and supportive. The company culture at IBM is inclusive and collaborative. One of the nicest cultures/atmospheres of any company out there I believe.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed the placement a huge amount, staff were supportive/approachable and had my career development in focus. The periphery opportunities at IBM eg. learning and global networking are fantastic, I have met with people I didn't think would be possible as an intern. The work I do for my team is complex and rewarding, my colleagues and line manager demonstrated the results my work made on a regular basis also.
