    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • In Commercial and Customer Success Management, I work with sellers ensuring updates were captured, analysing year to year performance, providing data insights, working on NPS (client success), talking with upper management on new ways of working / finding efficiencies, organising team events, helping with HR tasks such as creating welcome packs etc.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Excellent management skills have been developed through working with effective managers. Teamworking skills through collaboration on projects. Confidence has been massively improved as IBM encourages people to question ways of working, thus fostering an innovative environment. Strong excel, powerpoint, word skills have been developed. Skills on admin tools such as Atlas and gainsight, the 2 CRMs I used

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, every piece of work I completed at IBM was meaningful and impacted the organization in one way or another, whether this be from creating an organization chart to improve information flow to gathering, manipulating and presenting figures to upper management. Placement students are also encouraged to take on extra tasks, or engage in projects outside of their direct role.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • IBM is highly renowned for their strong company culture that has a good work-life balance. Employees are encouraged to take breaks throughout the day to ensure you're not stuck at a desk for 9 hours. With regards to events, it has been difficult due to COVID-19, however, we have booked an event for July when spaces open again. Emphasis on diversity and inclusion, through webinars and clubs.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I was given the opportunity to expand not only my understanding of the solutions / IT industry but also as a person through the opportunities I got myself involved in. I was pushed to explore IBM and meet new people / network, which is exactly what I did and I have established a great network throughout the company.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to IBM
  • There is strong focus on the individual, so see if your values align with IBM's. I had previously completed a university project on the company culture at IBM and that is how I knew I wanted to work there. Be confident at the Assessment Centres and voice your thoughts but also show that you've acknowledged and understood the views of others so that you can tackle the questions as effectively as possible.
