    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The first day involved some social sessions, a debate, a focus on developing personal skills, and some training for preparing to teach a lesson. We were given guidance on how to plan the lesson and then allowed to do this independently. We also attended a panel with ambassadors who have done the training programme. The second day involved delivering the lessons and receiving feedback, and another personal development session which was very useful.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The scheme was focused on identifying and developing weaker skills in relation to TF’s key competencies they look for in their candidates. I especially noticed a development in my ability to self evaluate, problem solve, and my emotional resilience.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was really great. Both days included a career focused session, the first with previous trainees and the second with recruiters, development managers and corporate/non profit partners. It was made very clear the different potential roles and outcomes of the training programme.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was so supportive. I never felt judged or under pressure and the facilitators created a really welcoming culture for learning and participation, kind of what you’d have in a classroom. It was really great, everybody was lovely and non judgemental and overall a fantastic experience.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teach First
  • Really dig into the Teach First competencies. They want to see you show them, but also see you be able to develop, take on feedback and grow. They’re all about positive growth, self reflection (on the good and bad) and inclusivity. Best advice is to be positive, smiley, and reflexive.
