Role Description

It is a 3 day programme with DLA Piper which allows you to find out more about how an international law firm operates. The programme includes talks from a diverse range of employees. In addition we could take part in an exercise which gave an insight into the work of a lawyer.

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • We took part in several sessions during the 3 days. These included application skills sessions, insights into different departments across the firm (e.g. Pro Bono practice), spotlights sessions with current trainees, and Q&A sessions with graduate recruitment and various solicitors. There was also commercial task we could do in our own time (this involved conducting due diligence, drafting a contract etc.). There were also many breaks throughout the day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My understanding both of the firm and commercial law increased drastically during the scheme. Especially as a non-law student, commercial law was demystified and made more accessible. I have now a better understanding of what law firms are looking for and what the day-to-day life of a lawyer might look like. Further the focus on mental health and equality really helped me to resolve some doubts I had about the legal profession.
