    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The online session involved speaking about the teach first programme and planning an 8 minute lesson to present in a group. This was a 2 day programme. The 2 days also involved looking at the wider picture of education in terms of issues in education which we were passionate about changing.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I developed my leadership skills and surprisingly found myself encouraging other members in break out rooms to participate and ensuring everyone got a say. I also developed my motivation skills as the programme has really influenced my decision to pursue teaching in the future. I developed my interactive skills as I spoke to many different people during the 2 days.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • We interacted with many professionals during the 2 days. I was engaging to understand about the potentials of teach first, especially their dedication to making a difference to disadvantaged pupils. Whilst I understand that location cannot be flexible in schools due to demand, it was quite disheartening to hear that location was limited due to my career responsibilities for my mum at home.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was so refreshing to hear that the company was so inclusive in terms of disadvantaged pupils and making a difference to children who can really benefit from this. Therefore the company ethos was positive. I felt the company provided a friendly atmosphere that made me feel at ease.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teach First
  • I would suggest immersing yourself fully in the experience. Do not be put off of the experience if you have no prior teaching experience as this can be learnt on the session and teach first make it very clear about what they expect. The session caters well for everyone regardless of their relationships or connections with teaching.
