    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • It was from 9 to 5 via zoom. You were given adequate breaks between each task and were expected to be able to plan and deliver a lesson by the end of the two day taster. We spoke to alumni and partners of Teach First to gain a better vision of what they stood for. We were given opportunities to speak with one another and work together in different tasks, such as debate and problem-solving.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, definitely! There was a huge emphasis on learning about teaching. In particular, I learnt how to better organise and plan a lesson, to consider tone of voice, to gauge the attention of each student. It also gave me the opportunity to work on leadership among my teams.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teach First
  • You should definitely try to do a little teaching practice beforehand. A lot of people there were already tutors and had experience. I felt I was thrown into the lesson with little preparation but the feedback was very valuable. I would definitely say do some prep work!
