    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The virtual experience had a well organised structure/timetable where we worked on personal development skills, engaged in discussions revolving around educational inequalities, and also had a chance to plan our own mini lesson. This was the main advantage of the taster as you receive feedback from an experienced Teach First lead. There were also opportunities to talk to existing teachers on the programme as well as many opportunities to network with others!

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Being online, this was a great way to build relationships with people virtually which is a skill we need now more than ever! I also found that I was forced to think more innovatively in coming up with ideas for the debates. I have learnt the skill of self reflection, thanks to the feedback given from my mini lesson. The atmosphere was very welcoming and engaging, everyone felt comfortable to voice their opinions.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I really enjoyed it. It was a very busy two days (even though you are sat at your PC!) but the information sessions were well balanced with lots of opportunities to discuss with lots of different people, via break out rooms. I think it was challenging too, making you focus on time management and problem solving. I was able to take away things for personal development, and weigh up options for my career.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teach First
  • During the application process of the taster, you will be contacted for support in your application- take it! Everyone is very helpful and there is no element of competition. The support at Teach First was stressed throughout and they love to help people through scary things like applications. Also, be prepared to talk to lots of different people via Zoom, and don't be afraid to raise your hand in the main room.
