    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I really enjoyed the experience, the breakout rooms allowed me to meet other people and understand their motivations. It improved my confidence, it improved my interaction with others, I learnt a lot about Teach First, there was a lot of positive throughout the experience. Can I mention Emily and Hariett were SO supportive, caring and we were really looked after, I felt welcomed. This was all despite the tech issues throughout so massive well done, thank you.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued. Every time I had a problem, the facilitators were more than happy to support me in a solution. They were happy to take questions and answer them. Very kind, patient and clear to understand. Made the whole thing very enjoyable. I instantly felt involved with the breakout rooms, breaking up the day, lots of interaction, could not have asked for more, so felt very valued from the get go. Thank you for the experience.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • Throughout the virtual experience, there were times when there were tech issues. The facilitators were patient, quick to resolve and understanding. They were polite, they were engaging, they gave us time to solve the problems and delivered material well, and answered all questions fully. They always asked if we had questions and there was one time when there were over 10 questions but it was no concern for them, they were taken one by one and satisfactorily answered, so great job, thank you.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills that were developed was 1) mainly dealing with Zoom, because I am used to Skype not Zoom, but I picked up quite quick with the help of facilitators at TeachFirst. 2) interaction and confidence increased a lot because there were so many opportunities to socialise and discuss with other peers, I enjoyed this as it gave an opportunity to talk. So beyond my degree, these skills can be used for sure. Obviously learnt a lot about TeachFirst too. Great.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • Very well structured. Clear timetable, timings were clear, we always knew where we were at. There were no issues with the structure. Even despite tech issues with breakout rooms, they were resolved very quickly, there was always someone in the main room to ask questions to, and there were many drop-ins by the facilitators to see if we understood what we were doing and to see if we were on track. so structure was excellent.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • Atmosphere was so good. There was a lot of enthusiasm by the students, I think following on from the last point, this is because the structure was so good and easy to follow, and there was good energy from the facillators. This led to a positive, exciting, enthusiastic atmosphere where I felt really safe, and willing to openly discuss with others, with respect and empathy for other people's views. Oh it was a great atmosphere, just what one could have wanted. Thank you.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think it was less investment in me, and more I knew that what I put in I got it. Having said that, they provided the platform for me to put in effort to get something out. And the platform was a very good one, well organised and structured, despite setbacks from tech. I do feel like the time and patience given was an investment by the facilitators. There was a feeling of safety and comfort.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The mini-lesson was a great opportunity to get a small taste as to what it's like to teach others. I found it was very eye-opening, when everyone goes quiet and then it's down to you to bring it, and bring the energy to the class, and everyone is relying on you to come up with something, like that was a good experience to have, and in the way, there was an experience of what it would be like to be a teacher.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • There was so much information about TeachFirst throughout, with snippets from Alumni and ambassadors. They provided info on where to go for further information, they provided slides to review afterwards, the competencies of TeachFirst were reiterated time and time again. The virtual experience provided much information about the company, even emphasising the companies mission statement, and showing videos on TeachFirst. I took away a good understanding of the TeachFirst culture, and will remember this when I apply.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I am still not 100% certain at this moment. Currently I am an industrial placement student who works in the Home Office as a Student Economist. I return next year for the final year of my degree. I got a first in my second year. I have worked so hard from an underprivileged background to get where I am. I read veraciously, sometimes four books at a time. I work hard. I don't believe in limits, I think anything is possible for me career wise. And I believe high salaries at massive investment banks is within my reach. So I'm on the fence, I just have to figure out what I want. What I really want.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I have found networking through the Facebook page, and having the opportunity to talk to so many students a great place for me to find new connections. And also move those connections to LinkedIn, and make lifetime professional connections. This has exceeded my expectations in this regard. I had some really great conversations and learnt about other people's backgrounds and it was so interesting to get to know other people, and their motivations. I'll treasure this social experience.

  • I would 100% recommend this experience to a friend!!! There was nothing to fault, great structure, great facilitators, great content, great social opportunities, great breakout rooms, great activities, it really was well put together and exceeded all expectations, and given me a boost in my personal life, increased my confidence, given me so much info on Teachfirst and I'm so glad to have completed it. Thank you to all involved. Even a friend was on the fence about the programme, I'd push them over the fence for sure .
