    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • 9/10 Invaluable experience that I will be forever grateful for, as my manager really helped me to build my experience in different areas and to take opportunities to expand my horizons.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 10/10- Everybody at fedex is welcoming and friendly from the day I started, and I will miss working with everybody.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 10/10- I received a lot of support not only from my manager but from anyone in the office who was willing to help if they could with that issue.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 9/10- there would be days where you have more work than usual but everybody gets those days, overall I felt my work built up after the first month whilst they were trying to set me up

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 10/10- I was given more responsibility than I thought I would be given, and am very grateful for the trust they had in me to deliver upon these projects.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 10/10- this experience has given me insight into the way a business works , and I am able to utilise this information in my studies and make comparisons back to Fedex from my learning at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 9/10- it was always busy and the atmosphere was very welcoming as people would always be up for a conversation. At lunchtimes it was always a good time to catch up with your peers and their were interdepartmental activities organised such as go karting which meant I was able to network with other people not in my department.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 9/10- at the beginning we were able to meet all the VP’s and had a good induction to the company. Despite covid-19 I was still able to carry on working on projects as well as new projects. It was only right at the beginning of my placement that I had issues with receiving my laptop as I had to wait a couple of weeks for it. However, I was able to get my training in, so it wasn’t wasted time.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a lot of training right from the very beginning in order to make sure when working on projects we did it the fedex way so we could deliver great quality results on them. These training sessions meant you were able to create a bigger network with connecting with new people. Therefore, I felt highly invested in by fedex.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 5/10 currently there is not a graduate programme which would be extremely appealing to me if there was one, as I would definitely have gone back to work for such a great company!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 8/10 - yes there was a good social scene amongst the other placement students, we all got on very well and we are all still in touch now. However, it was down to us to organise events for ourselves, so it would have been nice if the company could have organised something for us.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 10/10- I was able to live at home, so it was ideal for me. We were able to walk into Atherstone at lunchtimes or after work to go to the pub or a restaurant. There was a train station 10 mins away from the office which many of my friends took, so cost of transport was cheap.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/10- there is no night life in Atherstone, you would have to travel outside of it to go somewhere. All the placement students went to Birmingham for nights out which were great and very memorable. It’s just quite far out if you were commuting from Atherstone or areas close by.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 8/10- in my department we only went out for meals a couple of times for Christmas, so it would have been nice for my department to organise some team days out. I was able to join in activities from other departments due to other placement students being in those departments making me aware of the activities. I was also able to join the London marathon team through fedex and there was a day where we were able to meet all of the team from all round the Uk.
