    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • It was a real learning curve for me. I sort of had to unlearn everything I thought I knew and was taught the real reality of the situations. I liked the opportunity for development and self reflection, it allowed me to be more honest with myself and my perfromance not as a insult to myself but more constructive criticism

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I think it could have definitely been easy to make people feel undervalued as there was so many people on the course at one Time and the fact it was online would have also contributed. However I did not feel in anyway undervalued; I think they were really looking forward to having people stay within the organisation in some way or another whether they were made an offer for the training programme offer or not.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • there was never a point where I did not feel like I could ask a question if need be and it was made very clear from the beginning and throughout who to contact if need be. The various people who even attended as guest speakers also gave us their contact details if they had any questions.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • the skills I learnt in terms of the effective methods to teach in order to aid better learning will definitely be some I will be flipping on its head to aid my own learning. I liked the opportunity for development and self reflection, it allowed me to be more honest with myself and my perfromance not as a insult to myself but more constructive criticism.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • Absolutely seamless. From the fluid movement from the break rooms to the main screens. To the different exercises and different speakers coming in and sharing their screens fluidly. the whiteboard and annotate options were features of zoom I hadn't experienced before so it was really exciting and easy to catch on to.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • the atmosphere was positive. everyone was looking to achieve the same goals whether you be an ambassador or a student taking the course. Each individual tried as much as possible to include other students or at least try to come out of their own comfort zones if they felt shy initially.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were many opportunities for development and self reflection, it allowed me to be more honest with myself and my performance not as a insult to myself but more constructive criticism. I also had the opportunity to receive feedback from my peers and the practice assessors, work on that feedback and then re-practice with the feedback in mind. It also made me more confident in giving constructive feedback as I had the opportunity to asses my peers.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think this may have been difficult as there were no actual students so the hustle and bustle would be a massive element missing. however in terms of colleagues and listening to the current teachers experiences it seemed like a positive experience overall.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • the company culture is very much for the students, it is very clear how much they care for them and everyone in the organisation is expected to do so and this is whether you are from the same background as these students or not

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Completing the course was an eye opener for me especially considering my own background and the impact my own teachers had on shaping where I am today and where my future takes me and I would love to have that opportunity to do the same for other students. if I do get offered to take part in the training programme I would not consider any other graduate job as it was clearly meant to be!

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, they had ambassadors come and give us a talk on their experiences. Some were currently on the training programme, some had completed theirs years earlier and were fully fledged in their careers whether heads of department or working in PwC after completion and used his experiences at the schools to become a recruitment adviser. They gave us the opportunity for a Q&A and any questions that weren't answered in that session were answered by email.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • the social networking opportunities were good but few as they days were so short which I can understand. The quiz was a nice way to bond with some people. the debate at the end was a nice casual event to round off the course. however I think giving more time for students to interact as a wider community. or in fact keeping the people in the sessions consistent which allows more time to form actual more I think giving more time for students to interact as a wider community which I understand is difficult considering how many students there are in the sessions. or in fact keeping the people in the sessions consistent which allows more time to form actual more personal connections which is better for networking. I liked meeting new people however under some circumstances some people are not as confident and having 3 new people in every breakout room can be overwhelming.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • YES! there were so many I wasn't even aware of. The royal society of chemistry offering free courses for those who have completed the online course; volunteering with intervention partners the national tutoring programme are just a few of those available because of teach first.

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • 100% considering how much I didnt want to do it just because I was lethargic from lockdown and the fact I was sad it was over after just three short days shows how much it was worth it. It completely changed my whole perspective on the career - and I now have even more respect for teachers everywhere. it was great and I would have been really upset if I dint take part in it. It ignited a fire in me I didnt know I had
