    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • Considering everything was done online, the training was amazing and the opportunities were fantastic. We were given lots of responsibility and had many tasks to do throughout. It was incredible for an online internship as we were given so much to do. I have learned so many new things and it has been really nice meeting other like minded people. With designated times to talk to a variety of senior colleagues it really helped to ensure a overview of the company as a whole not just the one area.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely well valued during my time at the company and it was really nice to get the opportunity to do client work with the team. We weren't just given training to do which meant that we really know what our role could be like if we decided to try and secure a graduate position. I was given lots of tasks and opportunities that I did not think that I would be given. It was really insightful and I could tell the people who were giving me work valued my contribution to the team.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • The guidance was incredible. We were given a structured plan at the beginning of the programme so we knew what we were going and also had all the essential meetings set up before we started. With designated intern managers and a very well structured programme it was hard to feel that you didn't have guidance. There was always someone to ask for help if you needed it especially as we had 'buddies' who would give us help when needed.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This internship was invaluable in telling me what I would like to do as a career and has given me skills that I will inevitably use in all aspects of life. We were given a research project to do during our time which helped develop team working skills and presentation skills. These will be used throughout life and so I feel that this project was great to be included. The training and content we received was excellent and I have learned so much.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The training was extremely well structured as we had a set timetable for all training at the beginning of the programme. The only difficulty was sometimes getting client work was hard as it took time for the person giving it you to get instructions ready when they were so busy already. However, this is a minor issue and most of the time we were kept extremely busy which has helped to give a full experience of what it would be like working at the company.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The atmosphere was great, everyone I spoke too seemed really positive. Other interns all seemed happy with the whole programme and everyone has said good things about their experience. As the internship was run across offices, it gave us a chance to interact across sites and this was really nice to do as we spoke to lots of people. Also the teams we were working with were extremely friendly and helpful which made it a lot less intimidating than I initially imagined.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company gave us lots of time and feedback on all aspects of what we have done. I feel that the personal development was great especially having not worked in an office environment before. I am extremely grateful that the internship went ahead even though it was online because it has really helped me improve as a person. I have skills to take away with me that I will be able to use throughout life.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The feel for everyday life in a role came across very well. As we were allowed to do client work it meant that we could really see what an everyday role would look like. By interacting with a variety of roles within the team it was also easy to see any potential areas you could move in to as you become more senior. With a lot of client work being given to us towards the end of the internship it helped us see what working would be like.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • We were given talks about Willis Towers Watson culture and how they work. It was helpful and allowed us to know more about how the company is run. Everyone was so nice and friendly and the atmosphere was very inclusive. You could see the quality of the work they do in the processes that were followed and the way that everyone worked. Having a chance to work directly with the team allowed me to understand more about how it would be to work there.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The internship has told me exactly what I would like to look in to doing when I finish university and so it has been invaluable to me. It is always scary when looking at what you want to do post university and so I am extremely grateful to have been able to see what this role actually would be like. We were informed of all types of careers within the actuarial profession which has been really interesting and given me stuff to think about.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Definitely. We were scheduled sessions with senior colleagues to talk about how they got to where they are and learn more about different careers paths. There were socials arranged to meet the teams and huddles in the week where we could meet people. Having the programme run across offices helped to allows us to meet other interns as well which was really nice because it can sometimes feel intimidating starting a new role but we could talk to others about what we were doing.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • These opportunities whilst difficult were really good. It is very hard online to be able to meet and run good social activities but I never felt excluded from anyone. These chances weren't ever going to feel the same because we were all working from home however it has been really good. We were given a task to run the last social on our last day which is good. I think we socialised with a big group of people and we may have never met some of them even if we were in the office.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We didn't really hear too much about this but there was a definite friendly feel. We heard about some of the events they run throughout the year and also the challenges that they sometimes run within the office for new graduates. Everyone seemed to be really friendly and get along well. They spoke about after work activities that they sometimes did as socials. We didn't hear much about what outside activities they did outside of work on a regular basis.

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this experience to a friend. It has been really really good and ran exceptionally well. The organisation has made it seem very easy and seamless. We have been kept busy but have not felt like we have been over worked and the atmosphere even online has been great. I would definitely tell other people to consider this internship if they were looking in to the same type of career as myself.
