    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This was a great job that I enjoyed. The year long placement got me involved with many activities outside of work, such a training courses And site visits. The work placement I was on was challenging and and engaging. I was in a new environment where I had to learn on the job.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by my colleagues massively. They trained me up in the first few months and later down the line I was depended on to do the same job as them. It was interesting to see my progression And development and I saw an increase in responsibilities given to me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had lots of support coming from different channels. My main line of support was from my line manager who would support me and answer any questions that I had. I had support coming from the graduate team who would answer any questions I had about my placement. I also had plenty of support from my team.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a sufficient amount of work to complete on a day to day basis. Some days I felt I had more work and some days I felt I had less, that all depended on what work I was doing that week as throughout the year I had a few projects.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Towards the start of the placement I had minimal responsibility as I waS being trained up in anew field of work that I have never been in. Towards the end of my placement I had a lot more responsibility, where I took on Solo projects Aswell as my day to day duties.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During my placement year I developed a lot of my skills. I was involved with training courses that developed my presenting skills. This is something that I will take to uni and beyond as it is a transferable skill used through university and the world of work, it was beneficial and I learnt a lot of useful tips.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was good and I got along well with the team here. The office was small and not large compared to other placement students so it was never hectic. I liked this as I got to know my team a lot better and had more time to talk and learn from them.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The graduate team organised my placement really well. They had all the courses and modules planned from the beginning. My actual placement sometimes felt unorganised as things didn’t flow as naturally as it could have. However I feel this didn’t badly affect my placement and I still had a great experience here.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was lots of training and development offered to us. I went to a few of the courses and sadly due to corona a. Few of the training courses were cancelled and we could not reschedule them in time with my placement. However it is all offered and all available to placement students.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am very interested in looking at the graduate scheme. It does attract me, I will look into this in more detail before any decisions are made on this. The graduate schemes at DHL look like the placement scheme but with more opportunities and more development over the course of 3 years.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a one other placement student at my office and we got along well, and as a group of 8 placement students we kept in communication as we met a few times throughout the year. It was good socially as we all got along well and all similar minded in terms of work.
