Taster Session participants Review

I absolutely loved gaining insight into everything that TeachFirst values and supports. Starting with the most obvious, they did a great job at introducing us to teaching and what that realistically looks like, by, for instance, bringing in students to replicate a classroom environment. Beyond that, they introduced us to educational inequality and their mission in regards to fair education which was a great source of inspiration.

The people at TeachFirst made us feel extremely valued by emphasizing the positive impact that we can have on people's future by bringing our knowledge and initiative into the field of education to achieve real change. Even as far as the mini lesson during that day is concerned, they reinforced how important our contribution was.

Everyone at TeachFirst was extremely helpful and kind, making me feel comfortable and motivated to get the most out of the taster experience. What I found particularly helpful was the fact that they brought a number of people to talk to us, ranging from individuals who had completed the programme to senior leaders. This allowed me to get excellent support and ask a number of different questions.

It is incredible how many skills I have developed following the completion of the taster. To provide an example, the emphasis they place on time management and simplification of tasks is something I have started being more conscious of with regards to my university work. I now make sure that before I start studying I have a thorough plan of two-to-three things I want to achieve by the end of my study session.

Everything was thoroughly planned and structured so that we knew exactly what was happening at any given moment. In advance of the taster event we received a timetable with all the necessary information slotted in as well as some things to consider before our arrival so that we would be in a position to make the most out of the taster discussions and activities.

During the taster the atmosphere was friendly and exciting. Meeting the other participants was a great opportunity to make friends and express our common interest in exploring the world of teaching. Being at the TeachFirst offices was also another fantastic aspect of the experience as I had the chance to get a general sense of the atmosphere there which was positive and motivating, with a number of people working as a team to achieve great results.
