    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed this insight due to the fact that is was a really well-rounded and valuable learning experience where I got to connect with many other individuals who had similar reasons as to why they were at the Taster event so that was a really positive aspect of the day.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued during the entire taster experience. We were given the upmost support by the team We were also provided with the option of having accommodation and we were also provided with breakfast, lunch and an evening dinner all for free which was very very nice and welcoming from the team!

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Everyone was guided as to what we had to do and also what was expected from us for the following 2 days of the event. The team were very helpful in explaining how the day was going to work out and how everything was scheduled so everything was prepared out for us and if we had any concerns or questions, we could always talk to the team.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The amount of information I gathered during the 2 days of the taster experience was entirely valuable, for anything in my life, whether it’s education based or simply just life skills. We learnt about the different skills, including most importantly self-evaluation which helped to assist me in balancing both my social and academic life.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Both two days of the taster experience was very well structured. The days were prepared very well, the timings were all stuck to and we each received a timetable of the structure of the day. This made everything much more simple and easy and guided one event during the taster towards the other very smoothly.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere of the taster experience was very fun. Everyone was bonding with one another as we all attended due to similar reasons. The office that teach first was located in was very welcoming and wasn’t too formal and it just felt like many of us could bond straight away.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Personal training was a huge aspect of this taster experience and occurred through us individuals having to work together in groups to prepare and then teach a group of young students on a certain topic. This therefore helped us to develop some of our key skills or pick up on new ones and to also have a moment in which we see what being a teacher is like.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The taster experience did help us to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the teach first company through the speakers that came to speak to us at the end of the first day, who all of which shared their different experiences. This gave us an insight of that and their journeys.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The company culture of Teach first is very welcoming and also strive to ensure that educational attainment and equality is achieved through their program. This was something that you can see straight away, from the very first day and task and the team members and their personal journeys and experiences.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It gave me a well-rounded and perfect insight into what a teacher role is like. There were many individuals apart of the team who all shared their experiences throughout the company. There was also a group of speakers who came at the end who have recently became teachers and shared their journeys.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed expenses for my travel on the train. We had to fill out a form and share the amount and our travel journey with the teach first team in order to get it reimbursed after the taster experience was over. I received the expenses shortly after with no issues.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • On the last day of the taster experience, there was plenty of opportunities to network and meet other employees of the company. For about 30 minutes, this was actually a task for us to do and talk to other individuals and employees who do different things, such as campus rep. They all shared their advice and experiences on working with the company.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I think the networking and social event opportunities was great between the other individuals who attended the experience, as there were a couple of breaks, a breakfast gathering and lunch for the first two days. I don’t think the network opportunities with other employees were the best as they could be as it was done on the last day at the end of the day for about 30 minutes. I think this should of been done mid-way through the day and for a bit longer as it felt slightly rushed.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We found about several activities that employees can get involved in outside of work such as if they wanted to be a campus rep or work with other partner organizations with teach first. I think this could’ve been elaborated on much more during the last day with the networking bit of the day.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I was actually recommended to attend this taster experience myself by my two other friends who also attended it and I’ve been thankful ever since as it was an amazing and really fun two days. It was definitely worth it and it gave me such a valuable insight into teaching and just basic life and academic skills that are transferable in so many ways. Everyone was so nice to meet!
