The Role
Content acquired from university is very relevant to the role, and everything is revolved around developing your skill set and helping to make you a better engineer who is much more employable and knowledgable after the internship. The work you take part in is very important and satisfying, challenges are very complex and rewarding; good levels of responsibility are given.
colleges value you even as a placement student and you are given real work that has an important impact for an ongoing project, colleagues trust and rely on you as well as value any input you give, also there are many other graduates or placement students who are there to help each other. Everyone in the office is really supportive and is always happy to help.
managers and supervisors are constantly assisting you in development and make sure that you are completing work without it affecting you negatively, they help you with any problems or concerns you have and support you in becoming a better engineer as well as deal with any queries you may have. Managers are always happy to give you their time and help with anything.
Plenty of work given to keep you stimulated, perfect work load but without overworking you, at times you need to work a little more or a little less depending on project deadlines. Also, at times you are waiting for paperwork to be processed but you can speak to manager and request more work if you feel underworked and they will help.
exceptional levels of responsibility given and very surprising given that it is in the nuclear industry; the work you do has a real impact to help make Sellafield safer and it is very challenging yet rewarding. you will work hard and be put to the test which pushes you to improve thanks the the responsibility you are given.
the content from degree was always being put to good use and during the placement at Sellafield I constantly learnt things from software use to engineering content, senior peers are always willing to go the extra mile and teach you from their experience. I feel that upon return to university after this placement the knowledge gained and skills will be very valuable for the rest of degree and far into the future!
The Company
office is very lively and plenty of people to talk to or ask for help from, plenty of graduates, other interns and seniors and generally a very good mix. plenty of laughs and a very exciting work environment, at times when the workload is slightly less due to projects ending in sync the office could be quieter.
excellent, very well organised they seem to have been doing these placements for a number of years now and know exactly how to organise it to get the best out of you whilst ensuring you get the most value possible from the placement scheme, everything was thought of and from the offer date contact was made.
They invest a lot into you from offering extra training to devoting time to you in order to help you improve and become a better professional, they give you high levels of responsibility and trust you to complete very important work. the internship scheme is taken very seriously and they invest highly into it.

I will definitely be looking to get a graduate job with Sellafield as I enjoyed the internship so much and feel I can do more to help them in their mission, hopefully I will gain placement on their highly challenging graduate programme that is very appealing. high salaries and plenty of investment into you as well as helping to get you accredited
The Culture
plenty of activities to get involved in with fellow placement students and other colleagues, from football to nights out there is always something to do and many people go out after work together. other sports including golf and hiking trips are available to get involved in if your interested in those.
cost of living is very fair and socialising is cheap as chips, literally. the cost to comute to work depending where you live is fairly cheap also as good transport links by bus especially, excellent motorway links if your travelling by car as its just of the m62 which is very easily accessible
for the area I worked in the nightlife was okay, a couple of places to go out but nothing special, however if your up to it you are very close to Manchester and Liverpool so can easily go out in those cities or even live in Manchester. some staff night outs are in Manchester.
Plenty of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, from mountaineering, golf, football, nights out to parties and work do's as well as ceremonies. as well as this many staff members organise further events and charity activities that you can get involved in if you wish to do so.
