    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Great place to do an internship! I enjoyed very minute and the best part was I was exposed to every part of the business Finding it both a challenging and interesting experience throughout. During the placement, I was provided with lots of opportunities to get involved in numerous important roles as well as being given the responsibility to drive my own personal projects. Some of these projects revolved around areas such as; data analysis, benefits, general HR admin and many others. Each working day offered different experiences and gave me exposure to the numerous elements of HR. I feel that my time at Adobe has given me an excellent start to my career and a great confidence boost!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From day one I have felt like a permanent member of staff within the employee experience team and not just a placement student; this has become evident through the responsibility and work I have been given in my role. During my time at Adobe regular communication between myself and colleagues from all levels, including execs, have helped me to feel like a valuable and trusted HR placement student.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I received amazing support! My management activity saw to have weekly catch-up and make time for myself when needed. Additionally time was scheduled monthly for both my development programs for the future as well as develop talks with my managing director

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My day was well balanced and driven by a multitude of work which always kept me on my toes, this did depend on the volume of the day, yet was mostly achievable to stay on track of. Additionally, I always had time to reflect on my own development and work upon side projects

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Throughout my time at Adobe I was given a lot of responsibility which I am extremely thankful for. Often, I was the main point of contact when employees needed assistance with our internal HR system, further to this I had full exposure to our data management which is not often trusted to placement students. Lastly, during my time at Adobe I was given the opportunity to organise our offsite to Dublin, hold weekly team and wider team meetings, present our onboarding to large audiences across Europe digitally, and lastly working with the recruitment team by hiring the next intern.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have learnt during my time with Adobe will be extremely useful for not only the rest of my studies, but also in my future career. The exposure I have gained at Adobe has allowed me to understand numerous aspects of HR and has equipped me with the ability to communicate with colleagues of all levels. Further to this the sheer relevance of the department I have worked in against my degree will allow me to put information into context, helping me gain a better understanding in my organisational psychology modeules.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office environment has been exceedingly welcoming, friendly and collaborative. Everyone was extremely approachable and offered their time whenever I needed it – which was particularly helpful with team meetings and onboarding events. Adobe hosts an internal ‘Recognition’ chat which encourages employees to praise their colleagues for great work. This helped to create an extremely supportive environment where employees recognise the hard work and efforts of others.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I believe that my placement year at Adobe was extremely well organised from start to finish. Communication was very quick, as after my assessment day and I was offered the role the following day, that same day I was sent my contract, offer letter and new starter information. Throughout my time on placement there were projects lined up for me from the day I started so that I gained exposure from the off. As the placement went on there was the opportunity to create and drive my own projects in order to explore different areas of HR.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As a placement student I did not expect to have much personal training and development invested in me, however throughout my time at Adobe I was given the opportunity to suggest activities that I wanted to do. For example, shadowing directors, organising and meeting with senior VP's, hosting onboarding events to 70+ workers across Europe, and even meeting/getting advice from customer experience chair Donna Morris.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst the employees of Adobe was great! As well as monthly arranged for (and paid for) socials, employees often arranged their own social events for people’s birthdays. Further elements that helped create a great social scene included dress down Friday, beers O’clock on a Friday afternoon, charity events and internal events such as free trips to watch newly realised films.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I was living at home the cost of living was near to none. Petrol did not take up much from getting from North London to the Maidenhead office, so the price was relatively low weekly. Travel to London was reimbursed through the company, socialising in London was great especially using my student ID for the best and cheap nights out while still in amazing venues!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Maidenhead was rather limited and although there are some nice pubs and eateries in close vicinity of the office.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Outside of work there are various opportunities to get involved in, including 5 a side football, badminton, cycling, running etc. There are also socials organised and paid for by the execs once a month which are always good fun!!
