    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Highly enjoyed working with Enterprise. They gave me the chance to develop my customer service skills and handed me responsibility in the workplace which has boosted my confidence. The role which i was undertaking consisted of being placed in the branch all of the time and overtime I was able to pick up a routine of duties. I could go into the branch knowing what my job was and being able to always lend a hand made the job more enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues were always on hand to help me out whenever i needed it. From day one they were very welcoming and helpful in getting me settled into the role. My colleagues were all older than me which at first made me a bit nervous. overtime however they were all fantastic at making me feel welcomed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Manager and Assistant manager were very good to me. No matter the situation they would find the time to lend me a hand and show me how to improve. Likewise they were all very welcoming and easy going. We would have regular meetings everyone month where I would receive one on one feedback which i found very helpful in improving my ability to do the job.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the first month there were occasions where there was nothing to do or everyone was too busy to teach me certain things so i could go about my duties. However, as months progressed and the tourist season got busier i found myself occupied fully and always busy particularly in the mornings.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At first I was regularly supervised and helped out on most of the duties i was being given. As the months went by a lot more responsibility was handed down to me. I was made captain of many duties and was left to my own devices to make sure there were carried out each and every day.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • the training i received at the start could've been more specific to the role I was working. In my first few days I was unsure of several aspect of my job. However, from a a personal standpoint with my manager and the colleagues at my branch the manner in which they helped me develop was very helpful and effective in allowing me to get better at the job.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Sometimes during busy periods it could be intense in the branch. There were times when we ran into problems in providing customers with their cars and this led to some angry customers and a disappointing workplace. However, on most occasions it was an easy going workplace where everyone was on the same level and which made it a very enjoyable place to work.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisers of the internship did a fantastic job in laying out the training for the interns and providing us with helpful tips and information that set us up well to do the job. When i arrived at my branch it had been a busy period and so they had not yet organised what all my roles were going to be. Overtime my managers helped delegate jobs and responsibilities that they thought suited me.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had regular performance monthly meetings in which me and the manager would go through my sales scores and what they had noticed they thought i could improve. Additionally, they also singled out what they thought I had done well and that i should keep focusing on these areas to not only help myself but to also help the branch and therefore the customers.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Gaining insight over 3 months made further work in the company more appealing. Working alongside those higher up than me gave me the insight into what working their job would be like. Seeing this has made that area of the job appealing and made future employment with Enterprise definitely something i would consider.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Colleagues would be regularly invite me out on nights out with the workplace and the company also ran a regular 5 a side football matches to which I was always invited. Going on these nights out made fitting into the workplace much easier and also allowed me to fit in the workplace better.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was high as this was during the busiest tourist time of the year in Edinburgh. However, this internship paid much better than any job I had worked before also since I was working so many hours i was not going out or socialising as regularly i had in the past which allowed me to save more money.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was always good fun. I go to university in another city so going out in Edinburgh provided a different social scene and allowed to me go explore new areas. I very much enjoyed this as the internship allowed me to go work and live in a new city and enjoy these aspects of the city.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • the company would organise nights out, five a side football and we were to undertake a project which involved going out and meeting interns from other branches. This allowed me to get involved with others in the company who I was not working with all the time and to socialise with others who were working the same role as me.
