    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Absolutely enjoyed my time here at WTW and would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested in finding out whether investments are the way to go for them. I felt like a valued part of the team who are very open, supportive, approachable and it seemed to me like they all love what they do which creates an amazing atmosphere to work in.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like a valued member of the team. I was very much encouraged to express my opinion which was then taken into consideration, never overlooked. Tasks I was responsible for were such that I could see the clear reason for them to be done and felt I was trusted by my colleagues to deliver diligently researched pieces of work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At the start of the internship, all interns were given a buddy (mentor) and a line manger. I was in daily contact with my buddy who was always making sure I got the exposure to the business I was most interested in when also getting experience from various parts of my team. I knew if there were any issues, my line manager would be available for me too.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This could only be described as a perfect balance. Spending 7 hours (plus 1h for lunch) in the office and having nothing to do would be dreadful but I felt like I had always something to do, had to prioritize task, and always had at least 3-4 tasks to work on during a day which made my experience really enjoyable.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a considerable amount of responsibility on both portfolio management part as well as client part of my internship. I was regularly asked to contact our external colleagues and deliver a done piece of work which would then go on to the committees to discuss. Really felt like I could make a difference.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed and enhanced a lot of skills, from being punctual, organised and not afraid to ask questions to presenting in front of the whole of the team, with the head of our business on the line as well. This was a great opportunity for me to work particularly on my presentation skills as each intern had to deliver two presentations.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very friendly, also quite relaxed and definitely very supportive of any initiative anyone had. All people's input was always taken into consideration and I felt welcomed since my first day as everyone in the office came to say hello and expressed genuine interest in the interns and we we had to bring to the team.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the internship itself was very good, never had any admin issue with anything. Also, during summer many analyst meetings were organised which we were more than welcome to attend which made it even more interesting. Also, at the beginning of our internship, they made sure we knew about the business as a whole and where we fit in.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given professional training by external 'value leads' on excellence and other company values. Other than that, in my team, analysts have booked in some time for us to go through basic excel training and so on so I would say that a lot was invested in our development in terms of the job we were about to do.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a possibility to get an offer for a graduate role within the team, depending on the feedback from the people who the intern worked with as well as the overall performance during 2 intern presentations we needed to do. The outcomes will be known in September this year for a role starting in September 2020

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a really nice atmosphere among the 4 interns in our part of the business. We all met in the assessment centre and therefore, it was nice to see the familiar faces again. We would spend each lunch break together and also share some of our interesting pieces of work (that we were allowed to). Also, we all supported each other during our presentations.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was quite high as the office is in the centre of London. However, company events were always subsidized and even if not, cheaper places were picked because they were always taking into consideration us - interns. In terms of accommodation, the office is in a great place for commuters from various locations around London where the costs of living may be cheaper.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Quite lively, especially on Thursday nights. Not directly around the office but close enough from it which I think is perfect.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there were plenty. Various networks within the company were organizing speed networking events with outside of our organisation as well as many sports activities or charity walks were organised outside of work for us to join. Apart from that, interns from Leeds also were encouraged to come for those events down to London.
