    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I did enjoy the insight quite a lot. This is mainly because I had previously never been interested in soil mechanics and such stuff but this made me more interested in it and introduced me to a whole new field of Geography that I never really would have considered before.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I did feel quite valued during my time at the company. Though I was still learning there, I felt like I did make a contribution to the work they did and I felt like they valued my comments as well. This was very nice to know and made me more committed to working there.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of guidance and support during the insight. Since I was not interested in this field before, I knew practically nothing but the employees got me up to speed and helped me to get into this field which made it easier for me to learn and easier for me to work.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the information I received regarding soil mechanics will help me a lot in the future as I continue with my Geography degree as it will provide me with a greater understanding of such topics. Also, the valuable teamwork skills I learnt will be transferable to any job in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well structured. It was nice that they acknowledged that I did not know much about this field so they started off with more basic tasks before slowly increasing the difficulty so I could tackle more difficult problems and recieve more complex information by the end of the insight.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was very nice during the insight. Both the employees and the students were very friendly and approachable so it was easy to talk to them and become friends with them. This made it easier to work with them as I could communicate with them much easier than if we did not know eachother.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think that the company invested quite a lot into me. They took me on eventhough I had little knowledge of their industry and they gave me lots of information and many skills to help me in the future, which was particularly nice of them. Personally, I got better communication skills.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight did help me to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company as though I was constantly learning new things, I was given the amazing opportunity to work alongside the employees in their everyday work such that I could understand what they do.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight did help us understanding the company culture. It was clear that the employees were very interested in soil mechanics and the industry but not just for themselves but for the wider benefits it brings such as increasing food security, which was particularly nice and noble of the employees working there.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the day was quite valuable in helping me decide on a career path. Though I do not particularly want to enter this industry, it has made me consider this industry and it has opened up the options available to me when I would have never considered this before.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid while working there which was nice as it let me know that I was valued and it let me know that I was making a valid contribution to the company. I was also reimbursed my expenses for travel and lunch which was nice else it would have been more expensive.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were plenty of opportunities for networking throughout the insight. We worked in teams everyday so I got to meet many new people. I got to extend these friendships on lunch breaks such that we could socialise and open up communication to make working with them easier and much more effective.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were really good. Everyone was kind and willing to talk about themselves as well as their job and why they enjoy working there, offering me indirect advice for the future. Furthermore, this made it easier to work with them and it often made our team work more effective.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I found out about a few activities that employees can get involved in outside work. Socially, the employees went out a lot and enjoyed meeting with eachother. Furthermore, there were opportunities for the employees to go to larger labs to carry out larger experiments in larger teams to achieve greater results.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this insight if you are interested in a career in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Geography as it has clear links to all 4 subjects and links interestingly to each one, providing extra knowledge for all the other aspects of the subject. The insight was also just really fun.
