    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at golfbreaks.com and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a placement year and to get involved and learn in a social and exciting environment. It has been the most incredible year learning new things which are essential to having a successful career and finishing university.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Yes, there are a whole team of students across the company so you have a good set of friends within that. Also, everyone else treats you as though you are a full timer and you can ask anyone for help so the community and work ethic is really one of the things that sets golfbreaks apart from other companies.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Any of the managers are more than happy to help and even though your own manager is the one you would go to, at golfbreaks I felt as though I could go to any manager of any team and feel as comfortable and valued as I would my own manager. Also my own manager was the best manager you could hope for when transitioning from university to a full time job as you felt comfortable and guided in the right way as well as being approachable and was a massive part of my success at golfbreaks.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Our role would change monthly, so depending on workflow and tasks for the day it would vary but you work at your own pace and how busy you were depended on how hard you worked and how much you took on. Sometimes on certain days/roles it would be quieter and I wish it was busier, and then again the flip side so I would say a good balance.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As much responsibility as the full timers which made you feel as important and you were contributing to the company - therefore being able to develop your skills to the fullest.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed skills that I would have never learnt anywhere else. The training was excellent and really prepared me for the role itself. Being a non golfer I thought I would have struggled, however I was supported with my manager, and within the team so I always felt like I was learning and growing. I grew as a person and also in my career. I feel as though the skills I have gained are invaluable.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a very social office and a young workforce, so there is always a social event on, with a lot of trips where you got to experience the different hotels and also night outs were a regular occurance.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Golfbreaks should pride themselves on their placement scheme as it is so effective and efficient - they have been doing it for a long time and is a huge part of their company culture and it shows!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We got a lot of training, we got to visit the different hotels. We were treated very well and I did feel valued and if I needed any help and development I would have got it instantly.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Great, there is always a good turnover of students who come back so there is defiantly something that keeps people coming back as the social and professional side is very appealing.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The best social scene, I have made best friends for life on my placement from the students to the colleagues and that is the biggest thing I have taken away from my placement year. People from all different backgrounds I usually wouldn't meet but I have loved every second.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Windsor is expensive but it is expected but also you spend as much as you want so if you want to budget and do it cheap - you can. Vica versa.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good bars and a pub downstairs was handy, a few clubs but the social atmosphere proved the point where you can have a good time anywhere if you are with the right people.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, sports and also social activities were offered to us.
