IT Service Desk Technician Review

To the extent that I could happily come to work every morning and not have to worry about anything going wrong for me, I was happy that the company saw that I was talented and because they gave me that encouragement I had little worries.

We all got along fine and were all friendly enough, some people I built closer relationships with which is normal. I felt that in my team we had a lot of social activities which I did not expect, it was nice to see and I fit in straight away with them.

The support was brilliant, I had regular one to ones with the head of the team and my manager including team meeting to ensure everyone is working on the same page. this was good for me as I like to be kept up to date with what everyone is doing, also it felt like I was learning a lot when I was listening to other peoples job roles and what they were doing. The support was there whenever I needed it if it were from someone else in my team, HR always having their door open, or just anyone in the office willing to lend a hand.

I felt like sometimes I had nothing to do, most times however I could crack on with something and it was easy to keep busy, but oftentimes I would just be lost on what needed to be doing. If simply no one had any issues and my workload was low then I would usually struggle to find something to get on with, usually ended up with tidying up the IT equipment shelves.

Tons, I was given the most exposure I could have wanted in order to learn the most and not have it get too much for me, I was dealing with account permissions so this meant I had access to users account settings so I had power and things I could control. this felt like a lot of responsibility and it was my role to keep everything managed to a 1st line extent.

I have developed a lot of technical knowledge and first-hand experience which will help me in my final year and the rest of my life, I think this placement has helped me secure a job since I'm confident I will be able to dazzle my future employer with technical knowledge and good customer service skills, and I can also count on receiving a very good reference from my manager.

They often had tons of things going on such as free food and treats to keep everyone going, this was usually because we met a target or if something had happened we everyone had to work super hard in order to over come it. We in IT were all foodies so there would always be something there for me to snack on and enjoy, it was like a party.

The placement was set up quite well, after conducting the interview for the following years placement students I could see how the entire process unfolded, I think the training period at the start of the placement was helpful as it consisted a lot of shadowing which allowed the last placement student to hand over to the new one, also gives them a chance to be introduced to everyone around the office before being more on your own when you have more confidence.

They invested their time with me training me and teaching me, being confident that it will be worth while. I like to think that they will employ me once again after I graduate university so they're teachings will be a full investment for them since I would be coming back.

I'd quite like the option to be welcomed back, I would enjoy living in the area again and returning to all my old friends, also I think that the role would be something I would be interested in taking further and I definitely think there is a career out of the role since it's like a ladder which you climb over time.

All the placement students and the ex placement students that had a returning role all kept in contact and had various group chats in order to stick together, this meant there was always something going on and if someone was bored one evening we would meet up in the town and get socializing. It was a very active bunch and I'm lucky that I got on with everyone as well as I did.

Cost of living was quite high, it was about half of my monthly salary for rent, I had a nice central town flat however so it was fair enough. Socialising was quite expensive too as all the royal pub's drinks were ludicrously priced.

There is not a university in the town so there aren't too many students, the nightlife is more 30's which I'm okay with, I had the other placement students so it was okay. compared to my home town it was miles better, compared to my university town it wasn't up to par.

Tons of stuff going on, you just need to get your foot in the door and seem keen and interested, sub-teams in the office would normally hold departmental activities which oftentimes would increase in size and more people from the office would just join in. it was good for anyone who was by themselves.
