    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight programme. I found it very telling and insightful. I learned a lot about Teach First and what it does. The week of training also opened my eyes to the grave issue of educational inequality it the UK. I enjoyed interacting with the students during the school placement and sightseeing at the school that I was posted to.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt like I was a very useful asset to the Teach First team and the school I worked in. While I was at the school that I was posted to I was treated like a teacher as opposed to a trainee who would be there for only a short period of time.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of support during the insight programme. I received support from the lead members of the Teach First team, who responded promptly to all my emails and questions. I also received a lot of support from the teachers at my school, They assisted me in planning my lessons and pointed me in the right direction when needed.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • While on the Insight programme I learned quite a lot about leadership and classroom management techniques. These were skills that I could use outside of the classroom. I could also use the planning skills that I acquired to help me progress in my degree and in my future career path.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • This insight programme was very well-structured and organized. Throughout the programme there was a clear schedule that we were meant to follow and I knew where I was meant to be at all times. During my school placement, my schedule was very clear and any changes to the programme were communicated effectively.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Generally, the atmosphere was very warm and I felt quite comfortable throughout the programme. Everyone I met while on the programme had a very positve attitude and was committed to the objectives of Teach First. The teachers I met on my school placement were very warm welcoming and made me feel comfortable.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe Teach First invested a lot in my personal development through the training in the first week of the programme. The training was very thorough, we were taught leadership skills, we learned about planning, communication, and how to deal with vulnerable people. These are all skills that will be very useful to me going forward.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It was a very useful form of exposure and I believe it gave me a lot of insight into what it would be like to work in a full-time role. This is because the hours were full-time and I had to get up early in order to get to the office on time, I had to be very organised and plan lessons to deliver them well.
