    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Really enjoyed the week - especially enjoyed going to the different work sites and work shadowing. I also found the CV, interview and assessment centre workshops to be extremely helpful as i've previously had very little interview experience. Very useful to hear about all the different roles and opportunities offered as i wasn't sure what role i could do with my degree.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • People were really friendly and welcoming. It felt like people were genuinely interested in what we where here for and what we were hoping on doing in the future. Having a youthful workforce enabled me to relate to the employees at Mace as they were only a couple of years older than myself.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Always making sure that we understood what was being talked about and allowed for plenty of time for questions at the end of presentations and site visits which enabled me to clear up anything that i was unsure or curious about. Also, very informative about what else we could do within the company as an undergraduate and when i become a graduate which was one of the main reasons why i came on the insight week

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • CV, interview and assessment centre workshop will allow for me to excel in applying for any roles at uni and outside of uni. Especially as i want to apply for industrial placement with mace - it gave me an idea of what they will be looking for at interview stage and further. Also, highlighted what i need to improve on when doing the assessment centre workshop and when others reviewed my CV.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Generally it had a good structure, and especially once we arrived on the first day the structure improved significantly. However, before there was very little information and gave us no information about timings within the week itself, which would have been really helpful beforehand as this wouldn't have led to further confusion during the week.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Some times there was a bit of waiting around - the lunches were very long but there wasn't many breaks. but i really enjoyed how relaxed the whole week was and how everyone we saw wasn't too intense and serious. Really lovely group of people which made lunches, group projects and site visits really enjoyable.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • CV, interview and assessment centre workshops gave a great insight into what an application process will be like with their company and other similar companies which was useful for future applications with the company. They also allow you to skip a stage in the application process if you apply for future roles with the company.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The work shadowing for an afternoon allowed me to see what type of role i would likely to be in and what day to day life would be like within the company. obviously it's hard to get a full understanding as what we were doing wasn't a typical day but you do get a clear understanding.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Answered questions about what they offer as a company such as charter-ships and mace days. Also, introduce you to the mace foundation which is the company charity and they introduce to the charity they choose to donate to for the year as well as a volunteering day and what people have done on their day in the company.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • made me want to come back to do an industrial placement. informed me on what i could do and the different opportunities they offer from summer placement to the graduate programme. If i wasn't informed about these then i would be less inclined to come back to mace. Also, told us about what they offer you if you decide to join mace.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I don't live in London so had to pay for a train ticket to get into London - this ticket was quite expensive but they offered to either pay it back in full or pay back part of it which is great as other companies might not have done the same thing

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • we saw a wide variety of people from the company - many of which were on the graduate programme which was very interesting. Also, met lots of longer term employees in many different sectors of the company. Work shadowing enabled to meet people who worked on the live sites and what their roles are as well as people who work in the office.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • didn't really have any events for meeting other people from outside the company - would have been nice to meet people from the main companies that they work with a lot. But you could meet so many people from within the company and if you wanted to speak to specific people from the company then they would set it up

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • showed us everything about the mace foundation and what people have done within the company to raise money for the companies charity they support . Also, showed us how the mace foundation can match any donations you receive if you are doing something for a charity such as a marathon or half marathon.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • definitely - it provided me with so many opportunities that i would have not got if i didn't go on the week. it gave me such a clear idea of what i want to do in the future so really good for people who are unsure on what they want to do and if they want to go into a career in construction and consultancy.
