About You
Yes I found this insight highly rewarding and think that it was definitely worthwhile doing because I learnt lots of new skills and lots about life in the company and feel I really developed my work with technology and will be very useful to me for work I want to do in the future.
I think I felt quite valued during my time in the company as I felt that the tasks that I was doing were contributing to the overall project and therefore this meant that it did not just feel like I was there just to do an insight, but could actually be valued in the same way as other employees.
I received a fair amount of guidance and support during my insight. To begin with I was assigned a partner, who had been in the company for about a year so they had a fair amount of experience and were able to help me with any queries I had. then I became more independent.
I think that generally the skills I was working on will help me with my degree because, although there were not directly linked the project I was helping with I had to do some write ups that were similar to mini dissertations and therefore this was good practise for my degree.
The Company
I believe that overall the insight had a pretty good structure. I was given more support and guidance at the start, which was good and then slowly eased into being able to complete the tasks myself and being able to develop the project in my own ways which was very rewarding.
I think that the general atmosphere was good during my insight. The company and employees were all very welcoming and friendly, which was nice and also lots of people were keen to help out or assist if you had any questions, but not in an intrusive or overwhelming way and so this was good.
I think that the company were pretty good with their training and investment in the insight. Before I started in the office I was given a training day on how to work the general systems. I was also given a walk around and introduced to all the team and equipment that I was allowed to use.
I think that I would not necessarily work for this company again in the future because I think that on a long term basis the project would not interested me enough to keep the work new. However, it was good to see how companies like this work and create some contacts for the future.
The insight was helpful for me understanding the company culture. I was very much part of the everyday office life, meetings and kept in the loop about what was going on, which made it very easy to fit in and understand how the company worked and what job prospects there would be like.
I think it was quite helpful for me to know that I would like something a little be more varied in the future for a job, it was fine for a short insight, but to keep it interesting I would like more variation in the project. So it was somewhat helpful for discovering this.
Everything Else
I was pleased to have my expenses reimbursed. I was not expecting to get paid for this because the scheme was short and it would not have benefited to company (too much loss of money for them on training). I was given some money for food and travel was covered which was good.
I think there were quite a few opportunities for networking and meeting other employees in the company. I attended a few meetings where I manged to meet/ was introduced to a few people higher up in the company, which was good and I also exchanged contact details with a few employees.
There was only one social event during my time there- which was a leaving do for someone that had been at the company for 5 years, so this was quite special, but I think because I did not spend long here there was not enough time to get the full variation of social events.
I am not sure that there were many activities for the employees to get involved in outside of work. The company has quite a busy work schedule so the hours tended to be quite long for most people. However, it is possible that the do some team building events that I was not aware of.
Yes I would recommend this insight to a friend because I think that it was a good learning experience and a fantastic way to get immersed in a company and experience day to day life in an office and see how the projects get carried out/ the processes involved for this to happen.
