The Role
This work placement was my first taste of an office environment; I thought the days were going to drag but they flew by because no day was the same.
I was made to feel like a permanent member of the team from Day 1, and not just like an intern (even though I was).
My manager always spoke to me and showed an interest in how I was getting on right from the start. He also treated me like I was a permanent member of his team.
The days went quick because there was always plenty to do; there was never a time I was sat around twiddling my thumbs.
I was assigned real study work once I'd completed my training, which made me feel valued because I was given this responsibility.
The logical/problem solving side of the placement kept my mind active throughout the year and it gave me an increased drive to finish my degree to the best of my ability. The placement also gave me more confidence which I was able to apply to my final year and beyond.
The Company
In my team there was always a great atmosphere, which was helped with the out of work activities that members of staff would often organise.
Because the company had been taking on placement students for a few years, everything was set up to make the process run smoothly both for the company and for the student.
I was given ample training and support to be able to do my day to day job to the high standards the company expect.

I was offered a job for when I completed my degree; this meant I could concentrate on my studies during my final year without having to spend lots of time applying for jobs and going for interviews.
The Culture
Because there were a lot of other students and recent graduates, there were nights out/trips to the pub/other social events often planned.
To say Leeds is a large city, the cost of living and socialising in the area I worked are not too bad at all.
Because the office is in the city center, there are bars and pubs just yards from you.
For the whole office there were events organised by the Sports & Social Club, and in addition to this my team often organised events too.
