How we collect your information

We only collect information by fair and lawful means, with your knowledge and consent. We also let you know why we’re collecting it and how it will be used. You are free to not give us this information however this could mean that we may be unable to provide you with some of RateMyPlacement’s services and features on the website.

How is your data collected

  • When you sign up through the RateMyPlacement.co.uk login page
  • Through several touch points on the website including redundant pages, leaving the website to visit third party page, through shortlisting and favouriting job roles and companies.
  • Careers and freshers fairs we use forms to collect your data to set up an account
  • Through sign up forms on dedicated landing pages, accessed via Google Adwords and Facebook Advertising sources

Shortlisting feature

  • Throughout the RateMyPlacement site we offer users the opportunity to:
    • Follow Companies, denoted by a thumb icon.
    • Shortlist Jobs, denoted by a heart icon.
    • Favourite Reviews, denoted by a star icon.
  • When a user first performs one of these actions for a company we ask for consent to share their data with the employer they shortlist, follow or favourite. For example, a user shortlists a job for Company A, they are then shown a question asking whether they would like to share their data directly with Company A.
  • If a user makes no choice when asked this question, their data will not be shared.
  • If a user declines to opt in, that preference will be saved and they will not be asked again for that company. Their data will not be shared. This preference can be changed at a later date.
  • If a user opts in to share their data with employers, the following information will be passed to all the employer that the user shortlists, follows or favourites.
    • First name
    • Surname
    • Email Address
    • Course
    • University
    • Graduation Year
    • Gender
    • The action they performed. e.g. shortlisting a job
  • If at a later date a user would like to stop sharing their data with employers, they can change their opt in preference in the my account section of RateMyPlacement.
  • Once the information has been passed to a third party employer, the users relation with regards to the data shared is with the third party employer.
  • If the user would like to remove or amend the shared data they should contact the third party employer directly.

From other sources:

When you visit our website, our servers may automatically log the standard data provided by your web browser. It may include your computer’s Internet Protocol (IP) address, your browser type and version, the pages you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on each page, and other details. This data is retained for 7 days and is used for analysis of traffic patterns and blocking malicious bots and users.

Use of information

We may use a combination of ‘identifying’ and ‘non-identifying’ information to understand who you are, how you use our website and your account, and how we may improve your experience of our website in future.

We do not share this information in detail publicly, however we may share aggregated and anonymised versions of this information, for example, in website and customer usage trend reports.

We use a third party provider, Dotmailer, to deliver our emails. We gather statistics around email opens and clicks using industry standard technologies including clear gifs to help us monitor and improve our email communications.

Analytics Tracking

When someone visits www.ratemyplacement.co.uk we use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We also make use of a third party service called Hotjar for recording heatmaps of where users click and scroll to on our site. We do not expose any personally identifiable information to Hotjar.

We make use of a third party tool called convert.com to optimise our website by A/B testing content and user journeys on our website. Convert.com will place cookies on to your browser to ensure you see the same version of an A/B test throughout the site. We do not expose any personally identifiable information to Convert.com.

Advertising and Promotion

Google Adwords

We make use of a third party service called Google Adwords to advertise our job listings and email alerts via adverts on Google Search results. We also use this tool for display marketing, which falls into either prospecting adverts (for those who have never been on our website) or retargeting adverts (for those who have been on RateMyPlacement.co.uk before). Google Adwords will place cookies on to your browser to identify what category you fall into, as well as to track if you have clicked one of our adverts. Any targeting is based solely on third party data acquired by Google, and is only open to us as aggregate data. We are not privy to your specific data. We also do not expose any of your own personally identifiable information to Google Adwords.

Facebook Tracking

We make use of Facebook’s Advertising suite in order to create adverts of our services, which are hosted on a variety of areas within Facebook, including its news feed, Instagram’s photo feed and Facebook Messenger. Facebook will place cookies on to your browser to track if you view or click one of our ads. Any targeting is based solely on any information you have given to Facebook, and is only open to us as aggregate data. We are not privy to your specific data. We also do not expose any of your own personally identifiable information to Facebook.

Push Notifications

We use a third party service called ‘OneSignal’ to send job vacancies via push notifications in browser – these push notifications are consent based. If you consent to receiving push notifications from RateMyPlacement none of your personal data is sent to OneSignal. When you consent to receiving push notifications you are assigned an anonymous unique identifier for the particular device that you are using; these unique identifiers are used to track your subscription to push notifications as well as us being able to track analytical data of the individual push notifications such as the number of clicks a push notification has received.
