    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • At times I was left to do my own thing - if I went again I would make sure I kept pestering them for something to do

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There were one or two individuals that really stood out and went out of their way to help me, but I think the others didn't get to know me as well as they could have done because they have a different work experience person every week

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The editors were very busy as you might expect, but they were very helpful and gave me some good tips about getting into journalism

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I mentioned before sometimes I was left to do my own thing, not always intentionally, but when I did get something to do it was really fun and interesting

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given stories and press releases to write up, was sub-editing work written by other reporters and calling up contacts to find out more information

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot about how a local newspaper works and how a newsroom in general operates. I enjoyed knowing things the day or week before the general public were being informed, and got to use industry computer software.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As much of the work is individual, you don't get a lot of chance to mix, but when you did it was a great atmosphere. There was only one time where it was a bit awkward, as a member of staff was being disciplined by the editor

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • They have been doing placements for years so they know what they are doing

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did the placement before I started my course, so they did train me up a little, but I think if I went back now they would be able to do more as I already have the basics covered

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think it would be interesting and fun to work there

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Only because I was the only one there at that time!

    1/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Again I was the only person there at that time! But I live in the area anyway so it was average!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Bournemouth is great for socialising, it has lots of clubs and pubs

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't look for that sort of thing though

    1/5
