    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Brilliant work environment! I really enjoyed my time in the Blue Lab. The people were fantastic, the atmosphere was brilliant and the innovation culture is infectious. It's really exciting to see what's been going on and to see what will happen in the future! I am really grateful for the experience they've given me!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel as though I was trusted to complete a variety of tasks without supervision from day 1. I participated in large projects and even completed my own. My colleagues were sympathetic to my university subject and encouraged me to see more of the company. They sent me on many visits to different departments to meet as many people as possible.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good level of responsibility. This allowed me to complete my own projects but also help out on others going on inside the lab. As with any large company there will be restrictions, however the team helped me to work with to produce work to my best ability.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As an engineering student, I was not expecting the type of work I was given. I embraced it as a learning opportunity and within no time I was enjoying being in the lab and the work I was doing. This will improve my organisational, project and interpersonal skills, which will be invaluable for the future.

The office had a great collaborative vibe that made me feel comfortable asking people for help. There was also a great coffee machine!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the scheme was generally great, however, there did seem to be a hicup with getting me signed into the system. This meant I had to keep requesting access to systems over the phone. IT and HR services were brilliant and quickly helped me to fix all the issued.
