    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at EDF Energy as it was very well balanced between a positive and supportive work environment and a deep and complete first approach of what is work in a company.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I had a very good time with my collegues at EDF Energy. The team was very friendly and open. I have been warmly welcomed on my first day and felt immediatly part of the team. The fact that most of my collegues were quite young, along with bonding activities organized by EDF Energy, helped me a lot sympathize with them while valuing each other.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was very well supported by my manager and none of my questions and concerns were left unanswered. I was given fairly long tasks most of the time on which I was working for multiple days. The only negative aspect would be the fact that I arrived at a very busy time in the company as the previous manager just left and my manager was very busy settling in the team and taking over the activities of its predecessor. Therefore, my manager didn't always have time to give me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very pleased wqith the amount of work I was given. In fact, I was given some very long tasks on which I was working for multiple days. I was working at my pace which allowed me to be more efficient and my managers were actually very pleased with the work I was doing. No pressure or deadlines were given to me and everyone was happy by the amount of work I was doing.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn't given much responsabilities. Since I am still studying for my baschelor, the lack of skills I had didn't allow me to get responsabilities. Instead, I was mostly working on smaller projects and my place was more of a help and support to the team than an member with important responsabilities.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the skills I developed at EDF Energy will be very useful in the future as this was my first approach of work in a company. In fact, in my opinion, the most useful skills I developed would be how to behave while working in a team for a company: sympathizing and valuing your colleagues while staying respecful regarding the work done and each other jobs.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very nice as I knew everyone and felt part of the team since the first day of the internship. We had a lot of time to socialise within our team but also with other teams and I made some friends in the company. Furthermore, there were a lot of bonding and after work activities organized by EDF which improved a lot the atmosphere in the office.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything was perfect regarding the organization. I received all of my cards, passwords, logins, email address etc. on the first day. I also recevied a briefing on what were the main activites of the team and a tour of the team members. I was even able to work from home when I broke my foot at the end of the internship.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As I explained earlier, my manager was very busy due to the specific time I arrived in the company. However, before starting any task that were given to me, I received help and deep explanations on what they were expecting from me and how should I proceed in order to complete the work.

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be delighted to work for EDF Enegy in the future as I really enjoyed my time there. The work atmosphere suited me perfectly and I really appreciated being able to work at my pace in order to be more efficient which gives, in my opinion, a better result than pushing employees with deadlines. Furthermore, the openness of my collegues along with all the activites and opportunities offered by the company made me feel part of the team and valued by my colleagues which became almost friends at some point. Also, I was very interested by the activites and projects of the team I was working in and the impact of their work was quite impressive and essential to the company. I was very happy and proud to be part of this team and to be able to work and help my colleagues on complexe projects with significant impacts.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, the social social scene was very good in the team as we were spending all our breaks together, discussing and getting to know each other very well. Also, I appreciated a lot the bonding and social activities organized by EDF Energy adn the effect it had on the team atmosphere were non negligible.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It seems to me to be okay as I was working in Croydon which is way cheaper than central London. However, I had to pay for my commute (zone 1 to 5) which was a whole budget by itself.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was none as the office was located in Croydon, outside London. However, I was living in the flat I rent with my flatmates for university which is situated in central London so I was able to take advantage of London's nightlife which is truly amazing. However, I wasn't able to go out in the area I worked in.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were so many opportunities to get involved and socialise with my collegues outisde of work. In addition to all the social and bonding activities organized by EDF Energy, my colleagues used to go to the pub once or twice a week after work which was a great opportunity to socialise with them.
