    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement year at Computacenter greatly exceeded my expectations by providing me with so many opportunities and experiences. Computacenter is such an inclusive company which really helps inexperienced employees embrace the community. An unbelievable amount of time is spent, right through the companies hierarchy of employees, to develop the new and this truly creates a great platform for anybody and everybody to learn.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • If there's one thing that i will leave feeling after finishing this year it is this; I no longer feel like a student and now feel confident in being a professional. The sky is the limit when it comes to the opportunities and responsibilities that are given to Computacenter's industrial placement students. You are not just valued as an employee but are truly relied upon within your role. If you are as lucky as I was to be apart of the scheme, be sure to have a "REAL" job.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • From the start of the year you are aligned to your line manager who is always providing you with any help, advice and guidance throughout the year. You have the opportunity to find a mentor and support is always round the corner if ever needs be.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Again, the sky is the limit when it comes to work load. There is work that is maybe "expected" but Computacenter motivates their employees to work hard and achieve the best possible outcomes for the company. The role becomes significantly more interesting and exciting when you pick up more work and responsibilities throughout your year.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have touched upon the question in previous boxes but there are numerous opportunities for placement students to push themselves to gain more responsibilities within there year. I was able to identify what responsibilities i enjoyed doing and really tailor my role.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although many students see a placement year as a chance to get a job and earn some money, the most valued outcome that I can take away from this year is the development of myself. Although a lot of the things I have learnt this year have little to nothing to do with my degree directly, I am certain i will utilise all my skills that I have learned and apply it directly into my studies for my final year. Brilliant year, highly recommended for anyone studying anything.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was aligned to a customer and so I would regard my office as their office. This particular customer was extremely relaxed and friendly and so encouraged a laid back and comfortable atmosphere (even encouraged playing darts at lunch). In regards to the Computacenter offices, they are very trendy and open which encourages you to work without stress.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As mentioned before, I am very pleased with the overall placement set up but like with everything there are still things to be improved on. In general, there is a path in which you can follow but really you are encouraged to adapt and tailor your experience to the one you want.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As long as I could justify why you would like the training, Computacenter allowed me to take part in all training that I wanted to take part in. There is a great internal platform that allows employees to search for training courses.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future prospects within the company are very appealing. Throughout the year, I have been able to meet and work alongside the Ex/current graduates/associates. I like the idea of coming back to Computacenter as I think I mold well into the corporation. The future is exciting...

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene at Computacenter is great! There are multiple oppotunitiues to socialise with each other and others. I found myself surrounded by people of all ages.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based out of London so I think most people know how much it costs... However, what I would say was most people I came across in the company were very willing to accommodate you. E.g. buy you a drink.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has such an amazing nightlife scene! You cannot beat the London nightlife atmosphere

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A lot of the activities this year were organised by ourselves (the students). We became really good friends over the year and took part in a range of activities like top golf, BBQ's and going to the pub.
