    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very enjoyable experience. I learnt a huge amount about the audit process, information which I am sure I can make good use of when I return to university. I was also presented with a number of great opportunities to take an in-depth look into the company outside the department which I was working, which is a good learning experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues are all extremely friendly and comforting. They are always willing to help and more importantly always make time to answer any questions or issues that you may have. You are also felt valued in terms of being given responsibilities from early on. There is always a colleague available to talk to if you have a problem or just simple want to have a friendly chat.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support is always available and on request also. Any questions or problems were attended to quickly and solved. There was no issues in getting support when needed and it is made clear how to ask for support if it is needed. Management and supervisors are very friendly and always welcoming and most importantly approachable.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • You have certain tasks which are to be completed on a monthly or weekly basis so once these tasks have been completed, it is really down to you to get involved in some sort of project or organise tasks to do. There is a great amount of autonomy and you really get out what you put in, so it is really down to you, what you want out of the placement.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility, particularly in completing monthly tasks on a timely basis. More responsibility could definitely be given in terms of additional tasks to complete or projects besides the regular task and responsibilities. Perhaps a project to lead would have been quite beneficial, but in the department I was working, audit, I can see that being difficult.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and training received will definitely help in my degree and further work. In particular the time management skills have really been developed as well as organisational skills due to having to meet deadlines, attend meeting and organise meeting with fellow colleagues. Team working skills have also been very important in my placement and this is something I can take into my final year, especially in terms of taking part in future team projects at university or future employment.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office is a very good atmosphere. All staff are very friendly and approachable to it is very easy to have a conversation with others in the office. The atmosphere is also quite relaxed so this helps in stressful times as the office provides a calm environment to work in.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The recruitment and initial stage was very organised with regular contact being made with someone at E.ON and then also having contact with your supervisor. The introduction stage could be slightly improved in terms of a more practical induction day rather than getting to know the company sessions as this will be done on the job anyway. Communication between fellow undergraduates is good and there is regular catch-up days with fellow undergraduate students.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a fairly decent amount of investment in training an development however there is definitely room for improvement here. I can see it being difficult in the audit department to provide any significant training in such a short time frame, but in other departments, such as, engineering, certain training courses could be made available, especially in the timeframe of the placement.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are looking very promising. the company has a very good culture and a healthy work/life balance is encouraged which is motivating. The friendly and helpful colleagues are also another reason why future employment is recommended. E.ON also provided very good perks/benefits for its employees which is always a bonus. The only thing to consider would be that the company is currently going through a few stages of restructuring so job security may need to be carefully considered. Other than that, great company to work for.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a great social scene between fellow placement students as there is regular catch ups with students in each location. this is coupled with regular undergraduate get together organised by the E.ON talent team. There are many opportunities to socialise outside of work and generally there is a good feel between other placement students. Socialising outside work is also encouraged.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted to work from home so the cost of living isn't quite relevant for me as I lived at home with parents. However other students have mentioned that the cost of living is fair however, if based at Coventry there is not very many places to go out so you may have to spend a little extra to travel somewhere like Birmingham. If based at Nottingham, costs are fair.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I can't really comment here as I was commuting from home t work I rarely went on a night out. However I have heard from fellow placement students that if you are based in Nottingham then the nightlife is very good, less so if you are based in the Coventry office. So really depends on which office you are based.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is many opportunities to get involved wit outside of work, for example, there is regular football games which you can take part in at all office locations. There is also regular groups that go for walks and cycling is also very popular. If you are into running then many colleagues go for a run during or before lunch. Other activities, such as, fantasy football leagues, are set up to name a few.
