    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed my placement, the work was interesting and rewarding. Although the area of work wasn't what I initially thought when applying (due to putting candidates in areas of business needs), it wasn't far off. I was also still able to partake in some projects in my initially planned area, as well as learning about and participating in my team's projects.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were all really friendly and happy to help me with any problems or concerns that I had. I started off my placement by doing job appreciations where I got to learn about all areas of the business - everyone was more than happy to help and tell me about their experiences.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was really helpful and supportive throughout my internship. We started off by setting objectives and goals (which were quite extensive), to fully understand what I want to get out of the placement. I was then checked on regularly through both daily informal chats and weekly 1-2-1 meetings. Any questions that I had, my manager was more than happy to answer and help me with.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The amount of work completely varied on the projects and teams that I was in. However, when I didn't have much work to do, I was able to undertake job appreciations (either organised myself or through my manager), where I was able to call listen and speak to other stakeholders in the business to better my understanding.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Whilst initially there was a lot of supervision, I felt trusted at all times (particularly in presenting). I was able to take an active role in projects and see them through to completion - despite the relatively short internship period - which was obviously rewarding. There was support when I needed /wanted it, but I was also trusted to do work independently.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt some valuable personal and technical skills that I can apply to my everyday life and also future work /university. Whilst the technical skills will obviously vary on the service line you choose, the personal skills can be carried throughout and beyond university. I was able to use E.ON's 'learning and development' area when I didn't have as much work to further develop on areas of my choice via E-learnings.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great! In my team personally, everyone was really friendly and happy to talk to you about anything (work related or not). But whilst in other teams (on job appreciation), I was able to participate in their daily team games such as Trivial Pursuit. There was also opportunities to go out for work socials.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My manager was very well organised throughout my internship. When I arrived on my first day, she had already collected my ID key card and sorted my laptop, so there was little admin work for me to do (although all site inductions and mandatory E-Learnings I did have to complete myself). Equally, my role throughout the internship (including projects) was already organised before I arrived, however I was able to personalise this if there was another project that I was interested in.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I completed lots of e-learning training whilst on my internship, some of which were mandatory but most were by choice. I also undertook training in my area, i.e. to understand the software that I would be using. However, I didn't feel that there was particularly much 'investment' in me as an individual. We had no training days etc, but this could have just been down to the time constraint of my internship.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The grad scheme sounds great. Every graduate that I have spoken to loves it, especially the flexibility and exposure that it immediately offers.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My team organised a social (meal and drinks) which from what I understand happens every few months. Equally, there was a group chat created on Facebook (by the HR team) for all undergrads so we were able to contact each other prior to the internship and for us to organise our own social events during. However, the 'social scene' throughout the working week definitely depends on which office you are in, and whether there are lots of other interns placed there too.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in the Nottingham office, which has both nicer and cheaper areas to live and restaurants /bars etc, so as with anywhere, you could spend as little or much as you want. But overall, the cost of living and socialising is substantially lower than other areas (like London for example) so this is definitely noticeable.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • In Nottingham the nightlife is great, there are lots of quirky cocktail bars and 6 notable clubs that I can think of off the top of my head (but I'm sure there are lots I haven't been to). Equally, there are lots of great places to eat and student bars that offer cheap drinks.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • This completely varied. My team organised one team meal during my placement, but a group chat for undergraduates was also created so if we wanted to, we could meet up whenever we wanted. However there was little organised activities outside of work such as socials or events that were organised by E.ON.
