    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved my placement with this company and would recommend this company very highly. They have provided me with on and off site training to do with the type of work I want to do when i finish university. I had a very good team that helped me settle in very quickly.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. I fell like we all have a good relationship on site and throughout the company. Working along side everyone was a pleasure for me and real eye opener on what I can achieve throughout my future career and what I can learn from everyone I work with.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support I was given by my colleagues, the people in head office, my management and people looking after me was great! So much better than I had a university. For example when I asked a question I was given an answer and shown how something worked and not just left with open ended replied like university.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy on a daily basis. If I wasn't out on site learning about what everyone does in the construction industry. I was learning about what paper work goes along side it and what different processes there where in place to make the job able to run smoothly.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I was given enough of a responsibility on my placement. Starting off with little responsibility to get me in the swing of things and progressing on to more and more as the project went on. I felt like I have learnt to take ownership and work with more responsibility over my placement.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed numerous skills over my placement these include: time management skills, responsibility skills and communication skills. The training I received was very good. I had in house training and external training. This included the following: SMSTS training, Temporary works coordinator training, CSCS card training, asbestos awareness training, First Aid training and that just covers some of the training that I have gained.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was friendly as the office was quite an open office and everyone's door was open all of the time. While I spent time in the office I also spent time on site. The time I has on site was great. If I asked a question to a contractor they would be happy to help me and show me how something is done.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From the company side my work placement was set up very well accommodating my needs at all times. On the other hand the university was useless. Not very good with communication between me and themselves or the company and themselves. The hand book I was given by the university was out of date and was not even relevant to my placement or course!

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My personal training consisted off in house and external training. I feel like the company I worked with invest not just money in me by there time as well. They put me through training that will help me not only complete my final year at university by will help me to progress in my career.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Travel loan

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I feel like future employment prospects are very clear within this organisation. The company offers a student placement scheme that I am on now and then they pick from them students some of them to offer a graduate scheme to. They also offer a graduate scheme for people that would like to join them after they had graduated from university.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene amongst myself and my colleagues as we all go to know each other well through working along side each other and also all going out together. On the other hand I did not see much of the other placement students working with this company as we where placed on different sites far apart from each other.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was not much at all when I was working away with this company as they paid for a meal allowance every night you stayed away from home, the hotel when you where staying away from from, parking where ever you where working and travel expenses whether that we your mileage and fuel allowance or train, bus or taxi allowance. Socialising was a bit cheaper than where I was at university, the drinks where cheaper but the food was about the same price.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was alright in the area I was working in. There was a lot of bars and night clubs in the area and also lots of places to eat. The shopping in the area was also good as there where outlets near by. I did not really go out much as I was up early everyday.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There where many opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work. For example there where lots of gyms in the area, we would go and play football as a team in our local goals again some of the contractors now and again. There was also golf and boxing near by as well.
