    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a fantastic journey with a lot of opportunities. I've gained invaluable skills throughout this year, both technical and personal. I would recommend the experience to every young student looking to get a job as a software engineer.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The environment around the Hursley site is has been incredible. With a large amount of undergraduate students, a lot of the atmosphere around the campus felt almost like I never left university. The work:social balance is fantastic, with every employee remaining professional and polite while still being helpful and having fun.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My role consisted of a lot of self learning and un-managed work, this resulted in a lot of changes to how support and guidance was given to me. Having the ability to speak to an Early Professional Development Manager at all times was extremely helpful and provided a fantastic safety net, even if it wasn't necessarily used.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The tasks and work I performed were largely performed on my own initiative, allowing me the flexibility and freedom of working at my own pace, providing that I met deadlines.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I owned a product from the inception to the full release. I couldn't have asked for much more trust than that.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I've gained invaluable skills throughout this year, both technical and personal. I've spent a large amount of time researching new technology stacks and I've had the opportunity to perform in front of experienced members of staff, as well as talk with prospective clients. I wouldn't have been able to get that from many other companies.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Banter, games and we had a basketball hoop. Couldn't have asked for better company.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall the placement went seemlessly and I got surprised when March rolled around and I realised I was here only for a few more months. The only negative I would give is the slightly large amount of paperwork, which however I realise is necessary in such a large corporation.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot of attention has been given to undergraduate students and every effort has been given to provide opportunities and support for them. I was treated as a normal employee and got the same respect as my older peers.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Applied back for a software engineering position as a graduate. I'd love to work for them again.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The atmosphere around the campus was great. The undergraduate placement student culture has been fantastic and I've made friends for life.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • WInchester is not a place for night outs and can be rather expensive in terms of the cost of living However! Southampton is a choice and if you own a car, you won't be lacking for any opportunities.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Southampton is an option!

    4/5
