    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I had a good time, I got lots of experience but I also thought that a lot of it was a waste of time. On a scale of 1 to 10 I have given it a 6 as I believe a 6 is what it deserves as my experience was a 6.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I have given this a 5 out of 10 as I felt pretty neutral. During the first week I got no 1 on 1 time with a member of teach first, but that's not a bad thing. I felt like everyone else but I didn't want any attention so that's good.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the first week I got pretty little on a personal level, that is why I have given it a 5 out of 10. I have also given it a 5 out of 10 as that takes into account the useful help from the emails etc. I found that useful.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This internship gave me a good insight as to what it'd be like teaching so I'm very glad I did it in that respect. I learnt a lot about what it's like to be a teacher and work in a school, though my school was not an accurate representation of an average school. (Corby Technical School)

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was well structured. The accomodation was very convinient and it was easy to understand when I was supposed to arrive on the first day. I really appreciated having the timetables printed on the tables as I could refer to it throught the day at regular intervals which was useful.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I think that a lot of the talks were very same-y. Also teach first seemed very cult-like as I felt like I was being constantly bombarded with the teach first. I get it, some free school meal kids dont go to uni! Most people were friendly tho but it seemed reasonably fake.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They paid me £500 which was useful to cover food, clothing and travel costs. I don't really know what else to say on this one, I guess they gave us lots of help for our second week in the schools. Some free sandwiches for lunch would have been useful tho.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I am a bit annoyed that they really sugar coated the Leadership development programme. Guest speakers would occasionally mention how hard it was but they never spoke about drop out rates or how some people really struggle. They really just tried their hardest to sell it without being realistic, which sucked.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It really helped me understand how cult-like teach first is. Before I went to the internship I assumed the company were pretty normal and just wanted to tackle education inequality but after going to the internship I learnt all about how corporate it is and what the company culture is.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was really useful. It showed me that completing the leadership development programme is really not for me, but still gave me a chance to spent time in the classroom, helping me realise that I really wanted to do a university lead PGCE after I finish my degree. So 9.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The payment is useful but it is unclear whether it is supposed to be a salary or whether it is supposed to be a set reimbursement for travel etc. expenses. I think it would be cheaper for them if they just provided us with food and travel etc, but 500 was nice.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I have given this a neutral 4 as I'm not sure. I think they probably had some alumni group advertised but I didn't really pay attention as I'm not interested in doing the leadership development programme. I also wish we met more ldp grads that had a mixture of experiences.

    2/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I dont think there were any. I dont think there were any. I dont think there were any. I dont think there were any. I dont think there were any. I dont think there were any. I dont think there were any. I dont think there were any. I dont think there were any.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't. We didn't.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yeah I would for those interested in teaching as we got some valuable information about teaching. But I would warn them about the teach first culture and reccomend they don't consider going on to do the leader ship development programme as it was way over sold and it was quite suspicious.
