About You
The five day experience giving an insight in to the values of Deutsche Bank, how the company operates and where I could fit in with the company has been phenomenal. This was an especially exciting time as on our first day a new CEO had been appointed, so it was great to be a part of the buzz. I was in the technology division and all staff were really friendly and helpful, and settled any concerns I had promptly, even via email before the programme began. There is so much opportunity from this event, so I look forward to what the future holds!
The staff were so friendly, making it easy to envisiage future roles that I may like within the company. Even during the desk shadowing, where members of the team were taking our time from their own working day, I did not feel like a burden on the whole, except within 1 of my 3 rotations, but even then it was rare. Even on one rotation where the global head took time out of his day, the team could not have been more welcoming!
My three placements took place over three locations. This initially worried me as London is not an area I am particularly familiar with. I raised my concerns with the graduate team and they were extremely helpful and reassuring. I was given all details so that I could easily find my way.
Just the information about Deutsche Bank received alone has certainly helped me beyond the programme. They really do seem to uphold their values, something that was of particular importance to me. It is certainly an atmosphere I enjoyed being a part of! There were several workshops eg on presentation skills, which were useful to reflect on my skills and see others perspectives.
The Company
Timings were adhered to in the day by day schedule we received, so that I knew exactly what I was doing and when, so that I did not feel panicked or rushed during the week. The only time the programme felt a little unstructured was during my first desk shadowing. After giving me an insight into the structure of technology and DB as a whole, I think the team were unsure what to do with me. My experience would have been more enjoyable perhaps with a little more guidance to them. On the whole this was a seamless week.
Atmosphere is something I have already mentioned within my comments, despite having not seen this question. This shows exactly how engaging and enjoyable the atmosphere is at Deutsche Bank, in my opinion. The networking events created a particularly enjoyable atmosphere, giving a chance to bond with peers and seniors there.
The fact that on my insight week I got to meet with directors, global heads and a wide variety of people shows just how much they invest in each individual. People who are employed to give employees training also gave us similar exercises, really making us feel valued and invested in.
This again has proved a theme to my previous responses, again highlighting its importance to me during the week. The people you engage with all have their own backgrounds and journeys to Deutsche Bank, showing that anything is possible for anyone. You can really see how you would fit in at the firm.
Exercises and workshops on the values of Deutsche Bank really emphasised how central they are to the company’s culture. This is also reflected by the diverse range of people working there and experiences that they bring with them. This creates a diverse culture which aids team work and company progression.
There was a lot of information about all the different working areas. This means that although I am unsure if technology is the right division for me, I have been informed of the alternatives so that I can do the proper research I need that I felt I could not do before.
Everything Else
I was provided hotel for the duration of my stay, and can submit a claim form for reimbursement of my journey to London.
Yes yes yes! In the first session we were encouraged to connect with others in a game of bingo. I had already met some people during breakfast. On the evening there was drinks provided, again for networking and the following evening was the opportunity for networking with seniors of the firm.
The events were well structured making it easy to meet new people and make new contacts. Everyone was very approachable and friendly which really helped.
I found out a few things from personal experiences of employees during my rotations. The graduates also mentioned some training that they were doing. Other than that I am unsure as to what I could get involved in.
No doubt about it. One week on and I am still buzzing over last weeks events. Everything seemed so surreal at the time, but on reflection has given me a really positive impression of DB and the work that they do.
