    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really did enjoy the insight. It was really informative and provided some perspective into the running of a bank and how technology is fully integrated into the main framework. The work shadowing was really key in making it more enjoyable as you were able to talk to actual employees and see how they thought about certain roles and the direction the company was heading towards.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • One of the most important things that I believe is critical to a company are the employees. Everyone that I had met were extremely respectful and really made the experience enjoyable. I felt that the company culture really helped enforce this sense of community with the corporation and this can make anyone working at the firm more valued.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • A lot of guidance was given to everyone attending the course, regardless of what division you were in. Employees would provide as much information for subject areas where I and others were less knowledgeable about and the ability to freely ask questions and expect a really detailed response made the insight absolutely worth it.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although some skills or methods taught during the insight were somewhat lacking in depth - from a more general perspective, you could certainly use the information taught at the firm and apply it not only to anyone pursuing a financial career but to a technological career in terms of business sense.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Really well planned out and really well done to the Graduate Recruitment Team for making it one of the most pleasurable experiences I had. Every event flowed directly onto the next without any problems and we had enough allocated time to network with other professionals within the bank. It was not poorly planned at all.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was really dynamic and generally quite fun. The employees made it a really fun experience with their bubbly attitude and it was so that I was really comfortable being there and there were so many opportunities to ask any question, regardless of complexity without being judged. It was really brilliant.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Personal training and development was alright in that I managed to learn about other areas within the bank and saw how certain areas related to each other but it was not too in-depth to further my personal development to such a point where it would be so revolutionary to completely blow me away.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • With this spring week, I was automatically paired up with a buddy - a recent graduate currently on the graduate programme within the firm. After having a talk with him, it really gave me the insight for the transition from university into working life at the firm in a full time capacity.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The work shadowing sessions particularly gave me an insight into the company culture and how much respect employees have to each other, to people outside the company and the company in general I felt the company culture fitted my values as an individual and it would be a pleasure to work in that particular environment again.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • This wasn't so helpful but this is in itself my own bias as I am absolutely certain as to what I really want to do and what I can see myself doing further down my career path. The content just reinforced my experiences and saw the opportunities available in another industry.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I am yet to be paid for all transportation costs but under the current contract, the firm will and should pay all transport costs for me since I commute to work every day and that I live within the M25. Food was partially compensated for in the form of a voucher.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Multiple opportunities. The work shadowing in three different departments really gave me a chance to speak to employees, how they felt, the projects they were doing, their interests etc. There were dedicated networking events with drinks so you could socialise with other employees not in the department you were having an insight into and it was great finding out their views and what they do at the company.

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The organisers had deliberately set up lots of networking events in the whole programme to enable us to understand more about not only the front line staff but managers, directors and people higher up the organisation and to really get a feel as how the bank operated and what was in store.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There wasn't that much emphasis on what employees could do outside of work. I had hardly heard any employees talking about it nor was it mentioned on the course. There may have been some references to charity events or events undertaken by individuals out of their own time but nothing stuck to my mind.

    2/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • If they were absolutely unsure about the financial industry and the different career paths possible within the industry then I would absolutely recommend it regardless of the degree they were undertaking. It is definitely a positive experience to both develop your understanding of markets and the practicality of how crucial some departments are to the firm.
