About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my insight here at Citi. The program was extremely well organised, with a large proportion spent work shadowing whilst also allocating time for more general talks and networking sessions. I was able to gain a good grasp of what my division does and further confirmed my interest into starting a career in the financial industry.
I felt I was valued well, with every member of the team I was in willing to spend time with me. From showing me some of their work to going for a coffee with a VP it was a great feeling being part of a team that was excited to have you.
I received a huge amount of support, with team members willing to explain products and other technical terms well. In addition the HR team were great, providing us with insights to assessment centres to being available to answer any queries we might have. Moreover, the scheme paired us with a buddy/mentor throughout the week who was amazing, whilst also being a first point of contact for anything that I may need help on.
I definitely was able to further commercial awareness skills gaining a good grasp as to the different divisions in a bank. Moreover the insight was extremely helpful in providing me with an idea of what division would be suitable for me as a career, and just a general overview of some of the work a junior analyst would do.
The Company
The insight was well structured with a clear timetable set out at the start of the week. Our managers and buddys/ mentor were also emailed this so they knew exactly where we should be and helped take us to the rooms where our other sessions were. Moreover, there were numerous networking sessions integrated into our program which again was great.
The general atmosphere was good with everyone excited for us to be there. In addition, the employees were willing to spend a proportion of their time with us and were truly helpful. There was also an air of competitiveness given that the spring insight provided a head start into being able to join the summer internship program
At the start of my insight, I was given training documents given to those at analyst level to provide a basic understanding of what the division does, the products they provide and some of the clients/institutions Citi works with. In addition one extremely helpful activity was the banking case study where we were able to put ourselves in the shoes of bankers to work through an M&A deal with the help of associates.
To a large extent, as completing analyst-level work, work-shadowing, and general sessions helped me to understand the day-to-day working environment. Moreover, being able to have a mentor to bombard questions to no matter how trivial they may seem was another aspect that helped me get a real feel of what it was like to work at Citi.
Being placed in the same team for the whole week helped to understand the culture as by being fully integrated gave a raw view of what it is like in the workplace. However, different teams have different cultures hence it was difficult to find out more about the other teams without being placed with them.
It was valuable as from the junior analyst tasks to work shadowing I was able to concur to an understanding of what it is like to work and whether the actual task would be enjoyable to me. For me, the tasks seem interesting and varied hence I believe it would be a good fit for myself.
Everything Else
Food was provided daily and travel expenses reimbursed.
There was a large amount of time allocated to networking across the week. One example being the networking evening at Pizza Pilgrims, where we were able to network with junior analysts across the firm. In addition we had the opportunity to network with managing directors/ vice presidents through our networking dinner. Moreover on our floor my mentor was able to put me in touch with different teams to network with them.
Good, as previously mentioned we had networking dinners with senior employees, to more relaxed networking environments with analysts.
Yes, we had a talk by the corporate social responsibility team about the opportunities of charitable work employees have access to. Moreover being in the team there were plenty of examples of out of work activities from ski trips to company retreats.
Most definitely as it thorough gave an oversight as to the life of an investment banker, with clear guidance and a well thought out week. The communication with the HR team was excellent and the team you are placed in put you at ease right away. The opportunity to learn first-hand about some of the activities of the firm was unique,
