    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a really good experience during my time at Vauxhall. I learnt a lot and met a lot of new friends who I hope to stay in contact with in the future.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Within my department I felt very valued as I dealt with most of my colleagues on a daily basis. I was also asked my opinions during group meetings and asked to explain reports.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My Managers and my assigned Mentor were fantastic! They gave me not just advice in the role but helped me get insights into other areas of the company. Additionally, they involved me in conversations about their projects and how this affected the company overall.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy through out the week which on occasions could be challenging. This did however mean I was never bored or sat on my phone as there was always a task to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of what I did affected my department and how my colleagues operated. This gave a real value to the role as well as putting pressure on time restraints.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • For my degree I hope to do my Thesis on what I have learnt as I can very much apply my experience to theories. I also feel it has put me in a good position for a Graduate Scheme as I have acquired lots of skills.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is nice and calm and everyone is very supportive. The three people I sat around were all very pleasant and supportive and made work a fun environment to come into. The overall office is of a older generation but there are several other undergraduates in the room to socialise with at breaks.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement is very well organised with a two week handover at the beginning. Later on in the year insights to dealers and suppliers helps make you see the overall picture of what your doing.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot with the time and attention paid to me and helping me learn different skills such as IT Skills and seeing different departments. Weekly meetings with my manager was also a really useful way to talk about development.

    5/5

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are quite low as Vauxhall does not have a proper Graduate Scheme and a low recruiting rate from placement students. To note the people who do get hired usually go far within the company.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are lots of placement students and apprentices so there is always someone around. Handover also helps break in the placement students.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living costs are quite cheap and socialising is of a standard cost. To get to London is also very cheap on weekends which is also a bonus.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Luton is not the best place for partying but with Watford, St Albans and London so nearby this isn't to much of an issue.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The boys I was on placement with organised football weekly as well as there being football weekly set up by the organisation. For the amount of placement students there is usually something planned every week.
