    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was both interesting and useful. I was inducted into the team as a normal team member as my line manager wanted me to experience having a proper job. It meant that I was kept busy and learn how to perform in a professional environment.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They really appreciated the work I was doing, especially as I was doing the duties that they would normally be doing.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a weekly one to one meeting with my line manager so there was always an opportunity for feedback and to organise other things. My manager and my other team mates were always on hand to help me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy enough but occasionally had to stretch my work to last longer on quiet days. I get the impression my working was more consistent than other interns in other departments.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given duties from other team members that they would normally do. After they were confident that I understood the role, I was able to continue on them independently. The team treated me as if I was a part of the team.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was useful in learning professional manners such as how to write emails and networking in an office. It won't help so much with my degree but that's because I'm a Biologist. It will definitely be of use to any job that I go into later though!

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Lovely staff but no real social life as they are all older with children of their own. Other departments were more lively I heard. Very relaxed atmosphere, not what you expect from a bank!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. Everything was set up for me when I arrived. The intern coordinator was very quick to reply to any queries.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had weekly meetings organised with other teams so that I could learn more about different parts of the bank. In addition to this a couple of them did some interview practice with me as well.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. There is a high chance of being offered a place on the graduate scheme and I would be happy to take it!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the only intern at my office, with most others being based at other locations. I understand that they met up frequently for social events though.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London prices, not cheap! But Santander pay more if you live in London and so it is manageable

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has anything you could ever want.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We are all enrolled into a charity project to raise as much money as possible for Santander's chosen charities. Gives an opportunity to meet other interns and do something good for the community as part of the internship! Many of the other interns took part in volunteering opportunities offered by the company as well.

    5/5
