    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Was good. Lot of early mornings. Days flew by due to being very busy. Enjoyed what the jobs I was doing, whist feeling like I was getting a good experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Was given useful jobs, and small responsibilities early on, and reporting to higher up team members on a regular basis. Regular meetings with my line manager.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Regular meetings with my line manager, had a group of other construction managers with vast experience therefore could ask anything.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Towards the middle and end busy as the project came towards handover and when I was given some responsibilities. Slow towards the start learning about the project, what everyone's roles were.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Given more responsibility than I expected, handling a small subcontractor package, as well as the key schedule. Completed a lot of snagging and organizing snagging works.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learnt about the stages of building, not as much engineering as I expected. Assists my degree in terms of the big design projects, leaning to what extent something can be constructed.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Atmosphere was good. Very busy on a day to day basis, with subcontractors and others all querying. The team I worked with knew how to have a laugh, and was also a good working environment.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Placement was very organised. -Quick return on application and invitation to interview. -Well organised sending out of contracts. -Big organised full MACE induction with all other interns and year placement students, so got a good chance to meet everyone. -Well organised on site, regular meetings with manager. -End of placement review with all other interns in head office.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • On the first day there was a full MACE induction, thus we got to learn about the core values and the way MACE works. After this there was e-learning to complete, which covered a lot from safety to BIM. Easy to book onto training courses, or complete e-courses online.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future prospects are appealing, with a well rated graduate program. massive company operating in many different sectors and in different countries, thus lots of interesting opportunities.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was a little out of it, with the majority of interns in London and me in Oxford.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home thought my placement and commuted on the train. Prices of socialising were similar to any other city.

  • MACE Days given by company could have been taken part in.
