The Role
The placement was a very enjoyable one. Most of the staff were very welcoming and the other students were friendly too.
I don't think I gelled with my trainee mentor, and I believe this reflected in the work I received. However the other trainees were excellent and being placed in two departments allowed me to shine elsewhere.
The graduate recruitment manager was fantastic. He is professional, approachable and reliable. The only problem I could see was that the graduate recruitment manager was based in the Manchester office and at times it felt like more emphasis was placed on those students. It would have been nice to see him more frequently.
At times I did feel myself waiting for work, however I was proactive and asked other members of staff for jobs. Going to other departments allowed me to meet more people too.
The work I was given was fairly basic, however there was a task given from my second department which was enjoyable. Asking for work really does help.
Every little helps!
The Company
The offices are very modern and open. There is a sense of teamwork amongst the members of staff.
In general, the vacation scheme was organised. There was an issue with the visit to the Manchester offices as we were expected to find our own way there.
We spent a day in Manchester at their offices. The college of law ran a session which was interesting.
Company Parties/Events
I really enjoyed my time with the firm. I was quite hopeful with being offered a training contract however I accepted one elsewhere before hand. I wasn't invited back for the interview and this came as quite a surprise. The feedback given wasn't sufficient as I thought I really had done my best, but again I feel this may have been down to the trainee supervisor. There was a slight personality clash. I wouldn't want this to deter anyone because the firm is lovely! It's friendly, approachable and modern. The firm is growing, and I hope that they continue to develop successfully.
The Culture
The majority of trainees were all more than willing to take us for a drink or two.
Leeds is very cheap in comparison to London, and the work is just as big!
Leeds has a great nightlife.
There was a social midweek and drinks on the final night!
