    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed this internship a lot as I was able to learn about the industry as well as take part in a huge variety of work and activities. This was a valuable experience as it allowed me to consider if this is the career I would like to have after University.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by all my colleagues, both other interns, grads and more senior people. Everyone works together and is very friendly and you are always made to feel welcome. This allowed me to settle in very easily and to built good relationships with people throughout the company. All colleaugues who gave me work were also very grateful when it was completed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very helpful throughout the internship, he gave me guidance on work as well as settling in and checked in with me regularly for chats as well as feedback meetings. The mid internship meeting was very helpful as it allowed us to work on what we could improve by the end of the internship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The whole office was very busy during my internship and this certainly extended to the interns. However, this allowed me to work on a wide range of projects and therefore was a positive thing. Also, although busy we had weekly meeting with our zone leader to ensure no one was overworked.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good amount of responsibility during this placement, although all my work was checked, this is the same at any level within the company. After having work explained i was left to do it myself but it was never too worrying as i knew someone would check it for me after.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was a perfect balance between hard work and fun. Everyone worked hard to ensure all of their work was completed to the best of their ability but we also got to attend lots of socials and exam celebrations, as well as even plan a social of our own.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised both within the office and within the wider University recruitment. Throughout the 8 weeks I always felt that I knew what I was doing and why it had been organised. There was also a chance to meet the interns from the offices over the UK on the induction day which was a really good start to the internship.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company were helpful in terms of training and development, many talks were organised with people from different areas of the company and this allowed us to learn about the wider organisation. We also had Buddies who were new graduates and this was helpful in allowing us to learn about the experience as a first year and about the exams

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was very good, both with other interns and with the wider department. There were lots of subsidised events which allowed us to talk to many people who we may not have had the chance to talk to in our day to day tasks. We also got to organise a funded social.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The internship took place in London and therefore the cost of both living and socialising was quite high, however it was a great experience and the social events were often subsidised by the company, or even paid for. This allowed us to enjoy many activities and make the most of spending the summer in the city.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a lot of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of the work including social events and sporting activities. There were exam celebration drinks, first Friday of the month drinks, Frisbee matches and a summer bbq party to name but a few, all in just the 8 weeks.
