    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my time as an intern. I could have a deeply overview of the different tasks and responsibilities of every members of my team. I have changed team after 2 weeks which allowed me to meet people from various nationalities and backgrounds.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All of my colleagues in my team and not only in my team were very welcoming and friendly. I have easily adopted myself and felt comfortable in my team, more widely in Willis Re. I felt extremely valued for some tasks such as working on market studies and speaking to clients. However, for some other tasks, I had the impression that my team had difficulties to give me responsibilities.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • On each tasks I had to work on, my manager or someone in the team was always explaining in depth the tasks to do. For example, if we were working on a client reinsurance structure, a member of my team would have explained to me the client, the historical data related to it and the reasons why we are working on that specific task. I could get support from any member of my team at any time for any task which I have really appreciated.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work was so variable day to day, I had some extremely busy days working on different projects at the same time and some days were very quiet. When my manager was in a working trip, I did not have that much to do or very basic tasks. The busy days were the more challenging and I very enjoy having lots to do. I feel more useful for the team when I am working on tasks or projects.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My team had difficulties to delegate the tasks and responsibilities. Because it was a 8-weeks internship, it is difficult to be extremely involved on long term projects. We will never see the final result so my team preferred to give me daily tasks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed several skills throughout the internship. First, communication skills thanks to networking events (team lunch, drinks, intern events...). I have also increased my analytical skills through working on Excel, graphs and data and by speaking to Analysts and actuaries. Finally, I have developed a presentation skills through the group project than we ran during the internship.

  • In the office, the atmosphere was very friendly as everyone knows each other very well. We don't speak only about professional tasks but also about our personal life, the next lunch, parties, bars and other social stuff! This creates a much more welcoming and open-minded atmosphere.
