    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved my Internship in the Accounts department at EU99 in Egham, Surrey. There are so many opportunities you can get involved in through societies such as film club, to organizing charity days or having a day out of work to help a charity.. Cake day was definitely a highlight of the month, especially if you like to bake as well, as there is a baking society. They recently started the wellness committee which offers free personal training in groups, in the morning/lunch/after work as well as, lunch and learn talks on different topics. I would highly recommend Enterprise for a internship, you will not be disappointed.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Enterprise is a like a family, everyone looks out for each other. You can choose to get involve in as much or as little as possible. You are treating the same as any other employee so you will not be doing the typical intern tasks. But actual tasks that will impact the business and even reach to senior management. They wanted me to extent for as long as I could, after my initial years internship.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My management team were great and gave me detailed training at the beginning of my placement. If I ever had a problem with a task they would have the knowledge in able to assist me. I had three month reviews and had 5 SMART goals each time which I tried to achieve. They would give me the support if I needed assistance such as working with other departments.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say a near prefect balance. In my role in Accounts department the first two weeks were End of Month tasks so you had a specific checklist for each day to be completed, this would be your busiest time. The other two weeks would be catching up on emails and doing your weekly tasks and preparing for end of month. You may also have some ongoing projects you are working on during this time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The same as everyone in my team, you will not feel like an intern part of the accounts team. You are expected to get stuck into all the possible tasks, as well as helping out your colleagues when they need help. You also get the opportunity to train people, enhancing your skills and developing what you actually know, I was given responsibility on reducing costs for a certain department in the office and this meant dealing with senior management on regular basis.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My skills developed so much over the past year and look forward to be able to use them at University. My communication skills definitely improved, I presented in front of the whole company in my final couple of months of my internship - a great achievement. Something I would of never done, if I wasn't given the opportunity. My leadership skills as you are designated the task of training your replacement on all the tasks, this also leads on to organisational skills as you need to have covered everything before you leave. I look forward to bringing my new skills back to university, additionally, they are skills for life that I will be able to use to in the workplace once I have graduated.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Yes a relaxed environment. However, during statement which in the accounts team is our busiest time it can be quite stressful. Are dress code is smart so we look professional at all times. Cake days are great fun celebrating promotions, birthdays and transfers and then eating cake after or fruit if your feeling a bit healthier.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was extremely well organised, I took everything over from the last intern. So he gave me all the training I needed to complete my jobs. I was lucky enough to be given over a one month hand over period to learn and settle into my new job. I knew all the tasks I was going to take over from day 1 and received the adequate training needed.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested the same amount of time than they would with any other employee, that definitely made me feel part of the team. Additionally, I have quarterly meetings with supervisor on my SMARTS goals and anything I wanted to achieve. They would assist in any development pieces I needed, the personal training is also shown through the training folder on progressing to the next stage.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are appealing, I was offered to work in the accounts department in group near my university, however, it was a bit far to travel. They also offered me a job in a rental branch that the majority of past placements students will be offered. I also did not take this, for a few reasons, however, I did accept to be Campus Brand Manager for my university when I return. This is all before I have even graduated, after I graduate I am not fully secured a graduate role as they do not have these in the account team. Although, there is always numerous opportunities and they love to promote within and get previous enterprise employees back.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Within my year it was limited due to some of us living at home, others travelling a fair distance and some had moved down to live in Egham. We did try to make arrangements but it was difficult to get everyone at the same time. The new interns, however, some of them are living together and this has created a good vibe of socializing.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home whilst on my placement as it was a 15 minute cycle from my house. However, the rent is about 500/600 a month depending on what you would like and this is based on living close to the office, so no need to commute that far in the morning. Some people choose to live further out in Ashford as it is cheaper and then able to get a direct train to Egham.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was limited nightlife, however, it is in a university town so the campus has nightlife and obviously lots of people around your age. Staines is the next town and that has way more restaurants and bars in which you can go out and have a good night out. If you are looking for clubbing, London is a 30 minute train journey away and Windsor is a short distance which has lots of bars and nightclubs.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Depends on what opportunities you would like. Previously mentioned and in relation to fitness there is a running club on twice a week with an outside trainer to get involved with. There is yoga once a week and group personal training sessions to get involved with. There are ecents like the LGBT pride to get involved with in July and August. There's always an opportunity to get involved in something, if you would like to.
