    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I have enjoyed it immensely. I had no idea what to expect initially however I am leaving with a sense of achievement. The three weeks have really flown past and I now feel that I have a much better understanding of the job that I want to do in the future. I would highly recommend others to apply for this kind of vacation scheme.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt as though I was able to carry out meaningful work. I was able to see the results of the tasks that I was given to complete, whether it was drafting letters to clients or preparing practice notes. I was always able to get feedback on the work that I carried out and the busier members of the team seemed genuinely happy to have someone to help them out.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was able to meet with my supervisor and buddies very regularly during the process. Every day at least one of them would check in with me to make sure that I was getting on ok and that I had enough work to keep me busy. They were also very supportive during the assessment centre process.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that I have been able to take the things I learned at university and put them into practice. I have also learned that a law firm works very differently in practice than I had imagined. I now feel comfortable in a corporate environment and this will undoubtedly help me in my future career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured. It lasted for three weeks and there always seemed to be an event happening that I was able to take part in. There was a good balance of work and social based activities. It was evident that a lot of work had taken place behind the scenes to ensure that the placement ran smoothly,

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone I met was very welcoming which was very reassuring as it was my first time in a corporate environment. I never felt that anyone was annoyed when I asked questions or asked for more work to do even though the department was busy. Other departments seemed to be similarly welcoming to other students on the vacation scheme.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm definitely invested a lot of time in me. Several members of staff took a lot of time out of their working days to show mw how to carry out the tasks I had been asked to complete and to make sure that there was always meaningful work for me to do. In terms of personal development, there were many networking opportunities which were extremely helpful.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I was able to do work for many different members of staff and so I feel as though I have gained a good insight into many different aspects of the way the firm operates, It has allowed me to come to the decision that this is a firm I would love to work for in the future. I feel the firm invests a great deal of time and effort in the people it employs.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • This is an area which I thought I knew well before arriving at the firm. However, I have been able to see first hand how the values and statements that feature all over the firm's website actually operate in practice. It is an area which the firm prides itself on and I can now see why. I would say the culture here is stronger than at other firms I have visited.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Definitely. There were several organised networking opportunities with all departments of the firm represented. I found that anyone from the firm that I spoke to was keen to share their experiences in their own departments and to give advice as to how to get the best out of the placement. These events were really helpful.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely. It was challenging to get this placement in the first place but it has been absolutely worth it. I think I have been very lucky in the amount that I have been able to learn in my short time here and the people I have been able to work with. The firm surpassed any of my expectations and I would definitely recommend it to others.
