The Role
I have really enjoyed my industrial placement at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. I was given at lot more responsibility than I thought I would, and I have had the chance to work on project that directly contributed to the company's performance.
Everybody is extremely friendly and easy-going. From the beginning all colleagues treat you as they would any other permanent employee, and my manager has been extremely good at ensuring I feel valued.
I received a large amount of guidance and training from my manager, in order to develop myself and continue to learn. There is also a mentoring scheme in place to ensure that if you do not feel you have that support you have someone else to go to.
For the first few months as I was settling in I did not have that much work to do, as I was still learning about the company and the business. From there on I was very busy on daily basis, but rarely had to stay overtime.
You are given a lot of responsibility and you are treated the same as any other employee. I was responsible for developing pricing strategies for around 24 branches, which was directly related to their financial performance.
The skills I have learnt whilst here I expect to help me massively in the future. I now consider myself to be an expert on Microsoft Excel, after using it every single day. In addition, all the transferable skills I have gained, such as presentation skills, communication, time management will help me not only in my university, but in my future career as well.
The Company
The atmosphere has been reasonably relaxed. I have never felt under pressure to stay at my desk simply to show my face, however it is expected that you are serious with your job.
It was the second year they had run a placement scheme in this department, so there were a couple of obstacles at the beginning. However, the management made sure everything is resolved promptly, and the structure after that made working here very easy.
The company invests in interns/placement students as much as they invest in any other employee. There were training sessions scheduled by HR and within the department. You are assigned a mentor that can also help you with your personal and professional development.

As Enterprise is famous with the culture of promoting from within, there are constantly opportunities to move within departments and positions. They run graduate schemes in the corporate head office as well as individual branches.
The Culture
The cost of living in Egham is quite high as it is very close to London. However, with the salary I was earning I was able to maintain a good standard of life.
The only place to go to is the university here, however London is just 40 minutes with the train.
