    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was enjoyable from start to finish including the day to day job, all the training given and the social side of work.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone I came across in my time with Hiscox was really easy to get on with. They welcomed me as an intern from the first day and ensured I was always kept busy. Not only this but the work I did was clearly valued by my colleagues and they always came over as really grateful for my help. After the first few weeks I was often left to my own devices and was trusted to work alone on cases.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • On our first day we first met with the HR manager who was one of our main contacts for help and support and he was very approachable. After meeting the team in claims I had a meeting with my manager who stressed the importance of my getting out of this expereince everything I wanted to. He was not always available to have a chat with as was very busy but my colleagues were always there to help. I had no issues to address with my manager during my time but am sure if I would have asked he would no doubt have had more catch ups with me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was constantly kept busy and if I wasn't kept busy I would ask if there was anything I could do and there always was. I had a project to get on with if the day to day work was slow (which was rare)and had a group presentation to work on for half the internship with the other interns which was challenging but very worthwhile.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Much of my work was not checked after my initial couple of weeks as I was trusted to complete notes and draft emails. This gave me a lot of responibility which at times was stressful but so rewarding. I was also asked my opinion on things and sometimes managed to sway decisions if I could really justify my position on the direction we should take in a case.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training given was fantastic. From excel to presentation training have gained so many skills from this internship. The day to day work was challenging and taught me the practical aspect of law, and really drew on and developed the knowlege I have gained from uni.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone at Hiscox was great. They could not do enough for you.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • All the interns took part in a group project which we presented to the Board of Directors. This was completely left to us although we could gain help and support from anyone we asked! This did take up a lot of time though and made the first few weeks quite stressful. However once we presented this (about halfway through the internship) we were able to solely focus on the day to day job and so it was great that we had 8 weeks.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given a lot of training including giving presentations and on excel which has left me with skills to take away.

    5/5

  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

  • Yes, we went out together atleast once a week after work.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Only what you would expect for London!
